- No, I don't expect fireballs. However, you are wrong on some points:
A city ship could explode, it would have lots of oxygen in it. A cruiser could too. And nuclear reactions still make big shiny lights. Look at the sun. It isn't combusting, but it still glows. So yes, nuclear barrages would make big fireballs. Sure, a city ship could burn, but let me sing you a song about the sun, it was in some Monty Python,
Oh, the sun is a mass of incandescent gases, a giant nuclear furnace, where hydrogen is fused with helium at a temperture of millions of degrees.
Yo ho its hot, the sun is not a place where we could live, but here on Earth without it, there would be no you nor me,
ITS ATOMIC ENERGYYYYYYYY!
(End Song) Now, notice the word incandescent. What do incandescent gases do when heated? They make BIG LIGHTS! Now, nuclear explosions make light, but its not THAT bright. Also, nuclear is fusion, the sun is FISSION
Actually, most nukes are fission. Thermonuclear weapons are fusion, and they make a much bigger bang.
The sun is FUSION, too. hydrogen fusion, I believe. Nuclear bombs: fission Thermonuclear (aka H-Bombs): Fusion I think we may have cold fusion generators as power sources, so I think fusion is likely. So yep explosions in space. But not combustion type. A third nova would most likely just create more of the same. We already have plutonium, the largest naturally occurring element. I believe that here is what happens in a fusion bomb is that some explosive fires, compressing some uranium until it is close enough together for a chain to occur. The uranium fissions, and creates enough pressure to fuel a uncontrolled fusion, creating a lot of energy. Also, it creates some helium, so if you want balloons, go to a Fusion testing facillity after it explodes.

Well shit. I was going to say something, but then I went and looked it up. Turns out this is actually right. Thermonuclear does refer exclusively to fusion. Specifically, it's any nuclear reaction that is triggered by intense heat. The sun is indeed performing hydrogen fusion. In the red giant phase, it is predominately helium fusion taking place at a much higher temperature.
Fun fact: our sun is not an original or even second-generation star, but a third-generation. The original stars were super massive blues consisting of almost pure hydrogen. They all burned out quickly and probably none remain today. Through supernova the elements up to iron were synthesized. The second supernova fuses those and takes us up through the entire periodic table.
I wonder what sort of elements a third nova would produce... Sorry for stealing the cute lemur's thunder.

Nuke: fission Thermo nuclear devices: fusion Sun: fusion Nuclear power plants: fission Our Futurecraft generators: fission, don't think otherwise "Destiny" class Solar Mass Collectors: fusion, probably cold Boron was once the heaviest occurring element (or was it carbon?), then iron, plutonium is now, what will there be next time? And I'm glad I'm not the only one here who knows how to build an atomic bomb. Also, did you know that a sphere of uranium any size larger than 6 inches (why imperial?) is impossible, as it would start a fission reaction, resulting in a big boom? And also, I didn't research any of that, unlike other people.

| I have a special weapon that needs to be added! The Futuristic music disc, with tracks that include, but are not limited to, the DEVs rapping, Mackeroth singing country, and frostbyte making a new version of some heavy metal song! | |

| Really, it's insanely simple. You just compress Uranium until in starts fission. Duh!
Still, I only know the basics, not the exact proportions.

| We need fusion reactors so that I can properly build a Medusa-class superdreadnought. | |

With Solar Mass Collectors, so I can build Destiny.

Are you telling me that you've never seen Stargate Universe? Never mind, here's a link to the Wiki article about Destiny: link

Still, I only know the basics, not the exact proportions. normally dynamite charges are time to compress the uranium enough. at least thats how the first couple were made i have no idea now that our sense of raining death is so sophisticated. i dont know if proportions matter just as long as its u 196 (or 195 i forget.)

Not really. You just compress uranium 238 untill it starts fission. Okay. It is a lot more complicated that that...
