The fore ring is so that the vessel has a 270 degree firing arc at the front. This also maximizes the forward firepower, as I plan on having most of the guns there.

The real reason is 7 years ago in an overly colorful 3rd grade classroom I was to create a travel brochure, I chose space. I tried to be original with it, which leaded to the creation of a forward hollow cylinder after my mind subconciously drew it from the cover of an Analog magazine on one of the luxury liners.

From there, it's sorta been my trademark when envisioning spacecraft in my mind, as I've yet to see a ship with a similar module.

Look at the Vulcan Science vessel from Star Trek Online.
It might not have the ring at the front, but it has one. Possible inspiration?
Also, the ring can be turned horizontally when the support craft located inside the ring is launched.

That aside...

My original intent was to have this new ship be essentially a flying brick that can take it and dish it out in turn, probably Heavy Cruiser class, but I was struck to use some big turrets and I now plan on making it a Juggernaut. Basically, it's going to be mounting around 10 heavy railguns and some pretty darn thick armor. I'll have a picture when binvox stops fusing the plating when voxelizing into a .schematic.

I will laugh when someone flies into that ring and takes out most of your guns with a frigate...

Irregardless, it's quite hard to maneuver into a moving ship with one not too much smaller than the target. But nonetheless, my original plans included an awning over the top of the ring which also mounted the command bridge..I will have to consider re-adding that. Comments like yours are what I get for adding a weakness instead of declaring it the Super-ultra-awesome ship of the galaxy, I suppose.

But I digress. This is a Juggernaut. I don't intend to have it operate on its lonesome, rather, escorted by 6~ Proponents and maybe one or two Champions. A prospect that's given me the giggles is having it also serve as a mobile repair and rearmanent station for my corvettes and frigates, but I'd rather have that role be delegated to the up-and-coming Hephaestus class.

Yeah, that's something that really bugged me when all was said and done. Originally there wasn't even that 'hump' at the bottom to compensate for it a bit.

Really nice.

Looks really good. I like the color scheme, the overall shape, and the fins protruding from the engines. The only thing I'm not totally on board with is the height of the center turret, and the placement of [what I'm assuming is] the hanger. Other than that, it looks awesome!

Decided to go the difficult route instead of stealing LJS's ship. Not much to look at, but I noticed there was a distinct lack of 'reasonable' ships in my inventory, that is, those that I'll be able to manufacture in the mod easily that will be able to pack a punch.

Don't ask about the ring. I have no clue myself.

I like the design... A LOT
