-Paragon Institute of Technology-

The Paragon Institute of Technology (PIT) was an extremely extensive and advanced research facility hidden deep in the core of the super-heavy planet, Aeon IV-A. PIT was a Federation research facility, responsible for nearly three thousand new technologies produced and distributed over 100 years. Of any facility known, it had the highest safety record of any, with no major accidents and only seven minor incidents of any significance.

PIT was equipped with the most advanced technologies known to everyone, and a state-of-the-art weapon defense system. Over 300 raids were conducted at various times to PIT, and not one of them made it past the initial security systems. In addition to the technology, PIT was massive, stretching nearly 5 kilometers deep and 20 kilometers from end to end. Rapid transit required a vacuum-sealed Maglev train system, and was also supplemented by other transit methods, including several slower tram systems and elevators between areas. It staffed nearly 10,000 people at any time, and was completely autonomous. Apart from the occasional shipments of passengers or certain goods, just about everything was taken from Aeon and produced in the facility using advanced 3D printers.

-Events leading to the incident-

One month before the incident, the head researcher, Professor Gordon Alieon, reported an unexplained anomaly within the reactor core. It lasted for only a few seconds, but consisted of a massive, but localized, energy shift in the dark-energy spectrum. At the time, dark energy was a largely unknown phenomenon, however, it was suspected to accelerate entropy and destabilization in many systems. From their instruments, no change was noted in the main reactor, and no systems were affected. Performance had dropped slightly, but was back up immediately after the anomaly. Further studies were being investigated.

27 days before the incident, Central Command received an unexplained message from the Kayleid system, which is uninhabitable due to the large black hole that occupies the center of mass. The original message is as follows;

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dear Sir or Madam...

We regret to inform you that your previous purchase has *static* one small step for man, one giant leap for *static* human stupidity. *static* The man in black fled *static* in search of answers *static* for the life, the universe, and everything. *static* Stay a while and listen. *static* This is your fault *static* I don't know who you are, or what you want *static* It cannot be bargained with, it cannot be reasoned with *static* but it's the only way to be sure. *static* But the right man in the wrong place *static* can rebuild him. We have the technology. *static* It all looks so different on this side *static* so we leave it now, pristine, a testament to the mortal forms we no longer need *static* but it's never enough. *static* You have 15 seconds to comply *static* but I find your lack of control disturbing. *static* Hailing frequencies open *static* no response, captain *static* you can't say we didn't warn you *static* find him. Kill him. *static* This is your final warning.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

15 seconds after the message was received, the Paragon facility experienced another reactor anomaly, slightly larger than the last. The facility was put on full lockdown for while the base was searched thoroughly, and an expedition was sent to the Kayleid system, fully armed. Nothing was found in the facility, and the expedition returned only a malfunctioning comm beacon in a sub-orbital trajectory around the black hole. Analysis of the message indicated it was made up of 'Junk Data' from various mediums in circulation on Earth nearly 2000 years ago. How the mediums survived was unknown. The facility resumed to normal operations, though security was tightened.

17 days before the incident, reports of an unidentified man began trickling in from various sources in Paragon. The reports are inconsistent and hard to verify. Nearly 500 reports from various, scattered locations in the facility were received. All of the reports had one thing in common, however; it was a man, and he was wearing black. The facility was locked down and the facility was thoroughly searched again. Nothing was turned up, and all reports ceased after the search. The lockdown was lifted, and additional monitoring equipment was installed in critical areas of the facility.

11 days before the incident, Professor Gordon Alieon reported that an entire section of the facility, the genetics labs, had gone dark for nearly 5 minutes before coming back on without incident. During this 5 minute window, no scans could penetrate the genetics labs, and no communications were received. All mode of transit into the section failed to activate, and a team that went through the unblocked maintenance access reported a solid black wall, not matter, but undeniably there. It was like a curtain, or veil, that the harder you pushed, the stronger it pushed back. The labs returned without incident after the 5 minute mark. Nobody who was present within the section when it went dark remembered the incident, though one individual mentioned a 'presence'. Central command recommends a full-scale evacuation of all non-essential personnel, however, Gordon refused. He stated that the situation was under control. Command reluctantly agreed, though preparations were made in the event that one was required.

8 days before the incident, a routine maintenance team came across a body in the main access shaft between the genetics labs and the energy labs. From their reports, the body appeared humanoid, though it was horribly mutated and deformed. A medical team was dispatched immediately, though when they arrived, the body was gone. The maintenance team did not report anything taking the body, though they hadn't stayed near it due to the nature of the find. Medical team reports hearing some sort of whispering coming from deeper in the shaft, though an investigation by a marines team reveals nothing. Command once again recommends a full-scale evacuation, but Professor Gordon refused.

2 days before the incident, a routine test on several dark-energy manipulators in the energy labs goes awry and causes system-wide failures in the entire facility, including power and lighting failures and rolling blackouts, as well as a security and surveillance malfunction. This is the first major incident the facility has seen. The facility is down for nearly an hour while power and function is restored. During this time, multiple incidents of humanoid creatures moving in the shadows is reported, along with a nearly incessant whispering coming from entirely dark rooms and hallways. The reports are consistent, and command overrides Gordon's authority and issues a full-scale evacuation of the facility. Professor Gordon reluctantly agrees, and begins prepping for the evacuation. Due to the extent of the facility and Aeon's hostile atmosphere, it is expected to take one week before all non-critical personnel and sensitive equipment are evacuated.

1 day before the incident, another dark energy spike is detected within the reactor. This time, the spike causes a localized implosion and the core collapses into an infinitely dense point in space, a black hole. However, the reactor's performance is completely unaffected, and the black hole is completely contained within the reactor holding. Time to study it is not available due to the ongoing evacuation, but it's existence should warrant a vacuum meta stability event, meaning that the event horizon should expand at the speed of light to a size of a small star.

8 hours before the incident, several scientists report the 'man in black' moving towards the reactor core. 12 Infantry divisions stationed in the facility move on his path of travel to intercept.

7 hours before the incident, all teams fail to stop the 'man in black' as he simply did not appear for them. Surveillance indicates that he simply melted when he crossed into the line of sight of the infantry and reformed on the other side. Teams are moved towards the reactor core to lock it down.

5 hours before the incident, the reactor core begins to fluctuate wildly, with the meta-stable event horizon expanding and contracting. Command suspects the 'man in black'. Infantry teams are ordered to shut down the reactor.

3 hours before the incident, the reactor begins to cause proton decay events in the local vicinity. These events stop quickly. The reactor cannot be shut down, and the 'man in black' is nowhere to be found. Infantry teams are ordered to fall back.

1 hour before the incident, final status update. Researchers report that the meta-stable event horizon has begun expanding, and dark energy spikes are being detected in all sectors. Power failures are beginning, and many are reporting whispering coming from the energy spikes. At this point in time, the evacuation is only 18% complete, with nearly 8000 personnel still in the facility.

-The Incident-

[DATA EXPUNGED]

-The Aftermath-

Head Researcher Gordon Alieon recovered in a state of catatonia; Condition has not changed since recovery. Massive casualties and few survivors. Unknown bio-entities roaming Paragon facility. Unexplained anomalies present in the system; 56 mapped to date. Events at the facility are unknown; all contact was lost one hour before the incident and all survivors, when questioned, went into a temporary catatonic state. Status of 'man in black' uncertain- suspected to have infiltrated top level government command chains. Paragon Facility is a complete loss.

-Consequences-

If the information detailing the events at Paragon Facility are released, a ZK Interstellar War scenario is extremely likely. Information recovered from the facility appears to induce various differing emotional states, depending on the person. All electronic recording is unusable, as a result, in addition to any logs or data entries made during the event. Cases have ranged from catatonia, to extreme rage, to complete insanity. Given the authoritarian nature of most interstellar governments, the suppression of this information is top priority. Second priority is to locate a person with a strong enough mind to comprehend the data without reaction; Current President fits the category, but Command deems the risk unacceptable until a new president is elected in 10 years.

Additional losses may be accrued if the 'man in black' chooses to operate elsewhere. Steps must be taken in order to prevent these events from happening in the future. All facilities are on watch for dark energy spikes- The appearance of one will warrant a complete evacuation of all personnel and equipment, regardless of the cost.

||END FILE||

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

You are one of the personnel at the Paragon facility. Whether a top-level researcher, a guard crew, or even a maintenance team, you are one of the 8000 personnel left in the facility when the incident began.

The Gamma Incident is a survival-horror RP. From the log, you should know what you are up against, and the odds of survival.

There are many jobs here, and you should choose wisely; It will determine a great fraction of your abilities.

These include;

-Security Guard. Run-of-the-mill security agent for the facility.

-Scientist. The researchers of the facility.

-Assistant. They help the scientists, though their job is arguably more important.

-Technician. Monitor and run the facility's various functions, such as the reactors, transport systems, etc.

-Mechanic. Repairs equipment around the facility, and keeps them in working order.

-Engineer. Designs, plans, and builds items in the facilities' 3D printer factory area for personnel all around the facility.

-Soldier. Highly-trained weapon expert, deployed for the security of the facility.

-Doctor. Personnel trained in the treatment of wounds and injuries, and a vital component in the labs.

-Medic. Combat-trained medical personnel, for the quick treatment of wounds on the fly, though not as thorough.

-Pilot. Trained in the operation of aerospace vehicles, whom were landed on the facility during evacuation.

-Administrator. Oversees the day-to-day operation of the facility, pushes reports, controls funds. A leader.

There may be more I haven't thought of. Be creative!

RULES:

-No overpowered actions. Stay within your bounds that have been set. You can't magically bring back power to the entire facility. Or something.

-No godmodding, I.E controlling other's characters beyond reason. Like, you can't make the other guy fling himself at the bad guys. You can ask him.

-Be reasonable. Well, as far as this RP allows. We don't know what we will face...

-Everything I say goes, period.

And now, the application:

Name: Giikyr Tiivyik

Species: Strigiforme(Syykik Pygmy breed)

Gender: Male

Position: Mechanic for Strigiforme Model(model: 15-004-577) Shield generators in defensive decks(decks with defensive stuff)

Skills/Abilities: Deep knowledge of shielding tech, also has a basic knowledge of the operation of 3-D printers due to the specialized nature of Strigiforme technology. Also has talons for self defense

Flaws: No real combat knowledge or experience. Can only fly short distances due to his limits as a pygmy breed.

Short Backstory: Shipped in with a peace gift of Strigiforme shield systems for maintainence. While the Strigiforme could teach the humans how to maintain their devices, having a loyal member of the Strigiforme Empire to maintain it would decrease risks of the technology spreading. As such, he was one of the hundred or so Strigiforme on station, and now one of the ten or so Strigiforme remaining. He has a salvaged miniature personal shield generator augmented with Strigiforme tech. He also has a pistol with limited ammo from a soldier. He's hiding in the shield generator rooms, avoiding anyone and anything.

Athylx, your story would mean you would arrive at pretty much the END of the RP, because the Federation could not get to the facility until nearly a month after initial contact loss (Yes, it was that bad). Postponed.

Jack, you need a good reason for the Federation military to assign you, a foreign species, to the highest-security research station in all of their systems. Postponed.

ACHO, accepted. Your reasoning with Shield Tech, which the Federation is very interested in, provides sufficient explanation for why your character works, as well as mechanic.

Also, NEW application field- Current location.

My application (Note this is my main survivor character- I will be playing multiple characters)

Name: Kaiden Parish

Species: Human

Gender: Male

Position: Doctor

Skills/Abilities: Extremely skilled in the treatment of wounds, both short-term and long-term, using whatever is available. Skilled in computers and electronics, and has access codes to most areas and terminals.

Flaws: Not trained in combat, limited understanding of mechanical systems, prone to anxiety attacks when under stress.

Short Backstory: Kaiden was a top medical student in a human university back on Earth. After passing with flying colors, he was contacted by the military to work as a field doctor for wounded soldiers, whether aboard ships or on planets. He served for 8 years, and participated in nearly 50 battles. The constant gore and death around him eroded his will, and he eventually snapped. After passing into a coma for nearly 3 months, he was revived by an experimental technology in the Paragon facility, the first successful patient revived. He was impressed with the technology and the facility, and he submitted a request to the military to be transferred there. It was summarily approved, and he now resides in the facility, treating whatever wounds and injuries may come his way from the various day-to-day activities.

Current Location; Holed up with 5 other personnel in the Physics lab Medical Bay, treating two for injuries sustained to the arms and legs. Armed with a small plasma pistol.

Name: Michael Denvec

Species: Human

Gender: Male

Position: Technician, supervising the transport network.

Skills/Abilities: Can control the transport system, knows to keep calm in stressful situations.

Flaws: Tends to go the simplest way, doesn't care about more advanced plans. Doesn't have access to anything else than the transport system.

Short Backstory: Used to work at the transport central in one of the largest cities in the galaxy, where he created a very efficient traffic scheme for buses and the subway. Was contacted along with a few other transport operators to control the transport system of the Paragon facility.

Current Location: The maglev station in the agricultural area along with a mechanic, trying to fix a problem with a part of the track. Armed with a pistol and his portable transport monitoring device.

Name: V'rok Sanir

Species: Valyrian

Gender: Male

Position: Engineer

Skills/Abilities: Deep knowledge of plasma weapons technology. Slightly stronger than the average human.

Flaws: Very weak telekinesis abilities (limited to moving objects the size of a pencil) Utterly psychotic and bi-polar. (Goes from hard, cruel and ruthless to a shivering weeping wreck on the ground in a matter of seconds).

Short Backstory: Transferred to the station along with 5 other Valyrians in return for Valyrian ships being allowed passage through a small human system to cut the time took to travel along key trade routes. He was there to demonstrate the compact plasma technology utilised by the Valyrian military in the hope of developing more advanced plasma weapons for the humans.

Current Location: The west armory. Thanks to his position he was able to grab a basic model sunstaff. (A futuristic halberd with a compact plasma weapon in the shaft; sorta like Loki's staff)

Vinyl, Daynel and Targ accepted.

Jack, still not a reason why the Federation would recruit you for this facility, unless your talents are exceptionally above-average. See, the Federation is a bit... Xenophobic. Mostly due to the first contact wars that occurred constantly.

If there are no more applicants, we'll start.

Finally accepted Jack, but keep in mind the transport system was pretty much the ONLY way around, except through long access hallways or the maintenance tunnels.

I am working on a map. Each section will have it's own map, and connections to the other sections. Some sections will have multiple levels. It is pending.

Name: Jarus Svekk

Species: Skytherian

Gender: Female

Position: Pilot

Skills/Abilities: equipped with MOXUS system type P, for those that don't read a damn thing I write in the RPs (which is all of you), the system allows the user to integrate with a mechanical system transforming the user into a half biological half mechanical being, providing some enhancements, the type P (developed for pilots) is focused on quickening reactions and boosting thought process and perception, with some minor strength boost. Would grant Jarus very good night vision when used, and a bloody good aim.

Flaws: prolonged use of the MOXUS system type P outside of its specialty area (flying a star fighter) can cause extreme tiredness, and after a certain period of time, the system becomes weak, and can de-integrate without warning, leaving the user unconscious.

Short backstory: After the failed operation homeland carried out by Commander Grey after the Maverick wars, Jarus was assigned to a unit working with other factions to help improve relations, And ended up here.

Current location: Construction and Engineering

I guess the aliens would have little loyalty to the stations inhabitants/research; so would have been much more focused on saving their own skins than the humans; who would try to save equipment and stuff. Smile

PostSubject: Re: The Gamma Incident   The Gamma Incident Icon_minitimeWed Aug 14, 2013 2:05 pm

Updated lists with players and locations.

We start. (NOTE: You may join at ANY TIME)

(ALSO NOTE: You may/will die at some point. Remember this. You can make new characters if need be)

(SUPER NOTE: Non-human species will be seen with extreme distrust by humans, especially after the incident. Enemies aren't just the strange creatures.)

Kaiden was bent over his patient on the operating table, working by the bay's emergency geothermal power. He had put him under anesthesia, and was extracting what appeared to be spines from his arm. He made a small incision, just below the elbow, and carefully inserted some tweezers, feeling for the spine. He found it, and pulled it out. It was about 2 inches long, thick, and very strong; like metal. He set it on a table with about 20 others and began closing his various incisions, dabbing them with antibiotics and sealing them. No lasting damage had been done to him, unlike his friend; He would lose function of three of his fingers. He stood up, removed the metallic-gloves from his hands, and turned towards the door.

The two guards had locked the door, jammed the locks, and then moved several very-heavy data cabinets in front of it. "Any news?" He asked.

"No," responded Jake, the Technician at a computer terminal. "Nothing's popping up on infrared."

"What about other spectrums? Gamma? Radio? Any dark energy?"

"Nothing on all... wait. I'm getting a slight radio burst."

"Radio? Is it a transmission?"

"Appears to be. I can't get a signal; The rock is jamming it."

"Source?"

"Appears to be the Prototype Labs." Kaiden sighed.

"We'd never get there." Kaiden turned towards another, empty computer terminal. "Might as well see what we've..."

"Contact!" Jake stood up and read the readouts. "Multiple infrared signature approaching our position, humanoid, coming through the vent system!" Kaiden raised his plasma pistol and disengaged the safety. In a few moments, they were all in position, pointing their weapons at the main vent in the room.

"Could be humans. Check your targets!" Kaiden crouched down, and watched.

Lulf was trying to fix the transmitter when he heard a yell.
"Lulf!"
He turned around Balic was pointing his LRA-1 toward the tram station, a human was trying to get to them but had injured its leg.
"Halt! What is your name!" Lulf called to the Human as he pointed his Miv at it.
"Ashley Landcaster. Can you please help me?"
"Yes we can but your going to have to get on your knees Miss with your hands above your head." Lulf said as he walked out of the door and walked toward her.
"Balic keep a eye out!"
"Copy!"
"I'm going too do a quick pat down ok?" Nothing was out of place. "Ok Miss follow me." She just nodded and we started walking toward the door.
"How bad is it?" Balic asked as we walked into the door.
"Some pain but I can handle it."
"Better take a look anyway Balic." Lulf said as he finished locking and barricading the door. "I'll take watch."

"Any luck Kaiden?" Selza had instructed one of the marines to try the radio, attempt contact to the rest of the facility.
"Sir, I can guarantee you that we are transmitting, but I don't think it's getting through," Kaiden spoke waveringly.
"Just... Just keep trying Kaiden," Selza was a bit worried at this point, if they couldn't get to anywhere in this damned place then they could forget trying outside contact.
"Simmons, how're we doing?" Simmons had been tasked with checking the only functional thing they found in this whole room, some sort of motion detection device.
"Sir, I'm just picking up us and some other things around here and the odd signal outside, but it disappears just as soon as it's there, sir."
Selza was getting a bit on edge, they were basically sitting water fowl in anything came by that was just the bit inclined to eat them or something, they had only brought what was in their rifles when they were told to hold out in Prototype Testing by some higher ups, they also said they'd be getting other personnel in their as well as themselves, but no one had shown up. Yet.
