-Paragon Institute of Technology-
The Paragon Institute of Technology (PIT) was an extremely extensive and advanced research facility hidden deep in the core of the super-heavy planet, Aeon IV-A. PIT was a Federation research facility, responsible for nearly three thousand new technologies produced and distributed over 100 years. Of any facility known, it had the highest safety record of any, with no major accidents and only seven minor incidents of any significance.
PIT was equipped with the most advanced technologies known to everyone, and a state-of-the-art weapon defense system. Over 300 raids were conducted at various times to PIT, and not one of them made it past the initial security systems. In addition to the technology, PIT was massive, stretching nearly 5 kilometers deep and 20 kilometers from end to end. Rapid transit required a vacuum-sealed Maglev train system, and was also supplemented by other transit methods, including several slower tram systems and elevators between areas. It staffed nearly 10,000 people at any time, and was completely autonomous. Apart from the occasional shipments of passengers or certain goods, just about everything was taken from Aeon and produced in the facility using advanced 3D printers.
-Events leading to the incident-
One month before the incident, the head researcher, Professor Gordon Alieon, reported an unexplained anomaly within the reactor core. It lasted for only a few seconds, but consisted of a massive, but localized, energy shift in the dark-energy spectrum. At the time, dark energy was a largely unknown phenomenon, however, it was suspected to accelerate entropy and destabilization in many systems. From their instruments, no change was noted in the main reactor, and no systems were affected. Performance had dropped slightly, but was back up immediately after the anomaly. Further studies were being investigated.
27 days before the incident, Central Command received an unexplained message from the Kayleid system, which is uninhabitable due to the large black hole that occupies the center of mass. The original message is as follows;
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dear Sir or Madam...
We regret to inform you that your previous purchase has *static* one small step for man, one giant leap for *static* human stupidity. *static* The man in black fled *static* in search of answers *static* for the life, the universe, and everything. *static* Stay a while and listen. *static* This is your fault *static* I don't know who you are, or what you want *static* It cannot be bargained with, it cannot be reasoned with *static* but it's the only way to be sure. *static* But the right man in the wrong place *static* can rebuild him. We have the technology. *static* It all looks so different on this side *static* so we leave it now, pristine, a testament to the mortal forms we no longer need *static* but it's never enough. *static* You have 15 seconds to comply *static* but I find your lack of control disturbing. *static* Hailing frequencies open *static* no response, captain *static* you can't say we didn't warn you *static* find him. Kill him. *static* This is your final warning.

15 seconds after the message was received, the Paragon facility experienced another reactor anomaly, slightly larger than the last. The facility was put on full lockdown for while the base was searched thoroughly, and an expedition was sent to the Kayleid system, fully armed. Nothing was found in the facility, and the expedition returned only a malfunctioning comm beacon in a sub-orbital trajectory around the black hole. Analysis of the message indicated it was made up of 'Junk Data' from various mediums in circulation on Earth nearly 2000 years ago. How the mediums survived was unknown. The facility resumed to normal operations, though security was tightened.
17 days before the incident, reports of an unidentified man began trickling in from various sources in Paragon. The reports are inconsistent and hard to verify. Nearly 500 reports from various, scattered locations in the facility were received. All of the reports had one thing in common, however; it was a man, and he was wearing black. The facility was locked down and the facility was thoroughly searched again. Nothing was turned up, and all reports ceased after the search. The lockdown was lifted, and additional monitoring equipment was installed in critical areas of the facility.
11 days before the incident, Professor Gordon Alieon reported that an entire section of the facility, the genetics labs, had gone dark for nearly 5 minutes before coming back on without incident. During this 5 minute window, no scans could penetrate the genetics labs, and no communications were received. All mode of transit into the section failed to activate, and a team that went through the unblocked maintenance access reported a solid black wall, not matter, but undeniably there. It was like a curtain, or veil, that the harder you pushed, the stronger it pushed back. The labs returned without incident after the 5 minute mark. Nobody who was present within the section when it went dark remembered the incident, though one individual mentioned a 'presence'. Central command recommends a full-scale evacuation of all non-essential personnel, however, Gordon refused. He stated that the situation was under control. Command reluctantly agreed, though preparations were made in the event that one was required.
8 days before the incident, a routine maintenance team came across a body in the main access shaft between the genetics labs and the energy labs. From their reports, the body appeared humanoid, though it was horribly mutated and deformed. A medical team was dispatched immediately, though when they arrived, the body was gone. The maintenance team did not report anything taking the body, though they hadn't stayed near it due to the nature of the find. Medical team reports hearing some sort of whispering coming from deeper in the shaft, though an investigation by a marines team reveals nothing. Command once again recommends a full-scale evacuation, but Professor Gordon refused.
2 days before the incident, a routine test on several dark-energy manipulators in the energy labs goes awry and causes system-wide failures in the entire facility, including power and lighting failures and rolling blackouts, as well as a security and surveillance malfunction. This is the first major incident the facility has seen. The facility is down for nearly an hour while power and function is restored. During this time, multiple incidents of humanoid creatures moving in the shadows is reported, along with a nearly incessant whispering coming from entirely dark rooms and hallways. The reports are consistent, and command overrides Gordon's authority and issues a full-scale evacuation of the facility. Professor Gordon reluctantly agrees, and begins prepping for the evacuation. Due to the extent of the facility and Aeon's hostile atmosphere, it is expected to take one week before all non-critical personnel and sensitive equipment are evacuated.
1 day before the incident, another dark energy spike is detected within the reactor. This time, the spike causes a localized implosion and the core collapses into an infinitely dense point in space, a black hole. However, the reactor's performance is completely unaffected, and the black hole is completely contained within the reactor holding. Time to study it is not available due to the ongoing evacuation, but it's existence should warrant a vacuum meta stability event, meaning that the event horizon should expand at the speed of light to a size of a small star.
8 hours before the incident, several scientists report the 'man in black' moving towards the reactor core. 12 Infantry divisions stationed in the facility move on his path of travel to intercept.
7 hours before the incident, all teams fail to stop the 'man in black' as he simply did not appear for them. Surveillance indicates that he simply melted when he crossed into the line of sight of the infantry and reformed on the other side. Teams are moved towards the reactor core to lock it down.
5 hours before the incident, the reactor core begins to fluctuate wildly, with the meta-stable event horizon expanding and contracting. Command suspects the 'man in black'. Infantry teams are ordered to shut down the reactor.
3 hours before the incident, the reactor begins to cause proton decay events in the local vicinity. These events stop quickly. The reactor cannot be shut down, and the 'man in black' is nowhere to be found. Infantry teams are ordered to fall back.
1 hour before the incident, final status update. Researchers report that the meta-stable event horizon has begun expanding, and dark energy spikes are being detected in all sectors. Power failures are beginning, and many are reporting whispering coming from the energy spikes. At this point in time, the evacuation is only 18% complete, with nearly 8000 personnel still in the facility.
-The Incident-
[DATA EXPUNGED]
-The Aftermath-
Head Researcher Gordon Alieon recovered in a state of catatonia; Condition has not changed since recovery. Massive casualties and few survivors. Unknown bio-entities roaming Paragon facility. Unexplained anomalies present in the system; 56 mapped to date. Events at the facility are unknown; all contact was lost one hour before the incident and all survivors, when questioned, went into a temporary catatonic state. Status of 'man in black' uncertain- suspected to have infiltrated top level government command chains. Paragon Facility is a complete loss.
-Consequences-
If the information detailing the events at Paragon Facility are released, a ZK Interstellar War scenario is extremely likely. Information recovered from the facility appears to induce various differing emotional states, depending on the person. All electronic recording is unusable, as a result, in addition to any logs or data entries made during the event. Cases have ranged from catatonia, to extreme rage, to complete insanity. Given the authoritarian nature of most interstellar governments, the suppression of this information is top priority. Second priority is to locate a person with a strong enough mind to comprehend the data without reaction; Current President fits the category, but Command deems the risk unacceptable until a new president is elected in 10 years.
Additional losses may be accrued if the 'man in black' chooses to operate elsewhere. Steps must be taken in order to prevent these events from happening in the future. All facilities are on watch for dark energy spikes- The appearance of one will warrant a complete evacuation of all personnel and equipment, regardless of the cost.
