The Rules

I don't know if there's any confusion about this or what, but the rules as they currently stand are:


No deliberately antagonizing other forum users. This includes everything from minor insults to simply being very critical. Penalty: 1 Warning Point.

No deliberately seriously antagonizing other forum users. This includes serious insults and posting for no reason other than ripping on someone else. This also includes minor antagonism that seems to be directed at one member repeatedly. Penalty: 2 Warning Points.

No cursing. That means the 7 Dirty Words. If any of those words appears in a post, it will be edited out by a moderator. Penalty: 1 Warning Point.

No necroposting. Necroposting is posting in a thread that has not had replies in two weeks or more. There is one exception to this rule: It is acceptable to post in your own ship thread no matter how long it has been dead. Penalty: 1 Warning Point.

No off-topic that’s not in the Off-Topic Area. This includes posting threads that do not belong in that subforum and derailing threads that are in the correct place. Off-topic posts and threads will either be deleted or moved to the proper place. Penalty: 1 Warning Point.

No spamming posts. Everyone can see how many posts you make in a day. If it’s an unusually large number, a moderator will look at your recent posts to see if you have been spamming to get your post count up. If you have, the posts will be deleted. Penalty: 2 Warning Points.

No posting pornographic material in any form. This is a no-brainer, and it will get you permanently banned immediately. Penalty: 10 Warning Points.

Do not create alternate accounts. If an account is suspected to be an alt, it will be examined. If it is found to be an alt, the account will be permanently banned and the original account will receive 3 Warning Points.


One thing that perhaps needs to be clarified here: Threads in the Off-Topic Area are not free for derailment. You can post whatever new threads you want in the Off-Topic Area, but derailing threads that already exist is not OK.

I've been operating under the assumption that our current forumless state is temporary, and have been treating it as a bit of a vacation from the 'real' forum. As such, I haven't been particularly strict about the rules, and in particular the one against profanity has pretty much evaporated. As it has now been more than a month and we haven't heard anything from fr0stbyte, that's over. I will be enforcing these rules to the best of my ability and using my best judgement, and I expect everyone else with moderation powers to do the same. I also expect all forum members to respect the rules. We seem to have lost some of that recently, with people mostly not caring about what few points were given. That isn't OK.

Additionally, although there is nothing written in the rules about locking threads, I expect Moderators to use their judgement on when that is appropriate. In general off-topic posts should probably be deleted rather than having the thread be locked, but threads may also need to be locked on their own right if they either a) get out of hand (this hasn't been much of a problem) or b) are clearly against the spirit of the rules, if not the letter (looking at you, Atheist Sodomist Headquarters. I don't know why this has been a problem lately, but it has. Give these threads a chance, but lock them if you feel it necessary).


Carry on. But do it appropriately and in a rule-abiding fashion.

Though understandable Tiel’s outrage couldn't bring to anything good though eventually it all indeed comes to the point that you two continuously harass each other and me from time to time, depending on the mood. Guess I cannot be considered free of guilt though anyone would tell you I doo it significantly less. How about this time around we would actually follow the first rule about harassing other people shall we ?

I am suggesting a rule change- people are allowed to use cuss words, the seven dirty words, etc. in moderation, and NOT insulting somebody, but it is still to be avoided when other words will suffice. For example, Vinyl may post some insanely creepy thing, and hyperlite would be allowed to say, "what the f***," in response to the video, so long as he uses the words sparingly.


Generally, it's really a non-issue unless you can't go two posts without having one in a thread, or a user uses them constantly. Then we take action. But the way it is now, it's a bit restrictive.

Proposed rules changes should be given a thread in the Courts section where they can be properly discussed.

I've been thinking about this more, and I don't know what to do about it. I was nagged for weeks about enforcing the rules selectively, so I made this thread and resolved to be more active again, to try to turn things around. The overwhelming response has been that no-one here cares what the rules say, and in fact I've been issued two points for supposed rule violations in this very thread. I'm really thinking about just walking away, from my Moderator position at least, if not the forum entirely. When I wasn't doing this I was pestered, and when I did do it I was mocked, so I don't know that there's much else for me to do. I have worked on improving the way this forum is moderated for more than a year and a half, and I thought I'd made a lot of progress, but I seem to have been wrong. No-one cares. It's all been for naught. I find this incredibly frustrating. I've put a lot of effort into doing what I thought was best for the forum, but it's blatantly obvious that not even my fellow Moderators appreciate that, or are even willing to leave me in peace to continue. This is something that I care deeply about, but I seem to be a minority of one, so screw you all. I'm going to take a break from the forum, for a couple of days at least. Perhaps things will have changed when I come back, but somehow I don't think they will.

You could have at least tried.

Everyone, make it better. I liked LJS. And not in the way some of you might be thinking. Shame on you.
