Helios (filler) Empty
PostSubject: Helios (filler)   Helios (filler) Icon_minitimeThu Sep 12, 2013 8:55 pm

I thought I might try my hand at making an RP, despite there being one of Fen's up.

Satellites:
Spoiler:

Intro: The year is 2356, various empires, corporations and what have you have decided to colonize a system. This system is the Helios System, Centering around the star Helios XI
(Yes, I know I'm not good at writing.)

Rules:
No ponies, No owls, No Deities.
an the other stuff that comes standard with an RP.

Suggested Play style:
Almost entirely up to you, this is intended to be a somewhat political RP, with a twist. Mostly lowish tech, I'd like to keep the colonies to be under 3000 people. I'll add more to this as I think about it.

Application:
Colony Origin:
Race:
Colony ship name:
Colony intention:
*Short Back story:

Planetary info:
Apoapsis:
Periapsis:
Can your planet naturally support life:
If no, Shelter Complex Location:
(If you provide no planetary info, give me an idea of where your planet is. and I'll assign you some info. And yes, this does have bearing in the RP.)
(If your planet may not naturally support life, you may place a shelter complex on it prior to landing.)

Colony Origin: Solari Alpha, Solari Empire
Race: Solari
Colony ship name: SCS-012986
Colony intention: Scientific exploration, and expansion.
*Short Back story: The Solari have been limited to the few nearest star systems for about 1000 years, upon noticing the colonization effort for Helios, they decided to take one of the nearer planets to the star.  Due to being relatively new to the whole space thing, they've decided they would also gather scientific data.

Due to being one of the closer planets, it can't support life, that we know of that is. There is a habitat dome  that is being prepared to be dropped on the north pole of the planet. Due to the almost 0 degree axial tilt of the planet, there should be few, if not, no issues regarding keeping the dome habitable.

Apoapsis: 68,705,800 km
Periapsis: 57,000,100 km
Can your planet naturally support life: No.
If no, Shelter Complex Location: North pole.

Oh, around the star, sorry.

Colony Origin: Greece on Terra
Race: Human
Colony ship name: Saint Cyprus II
Colony intention: Religious rebels/minorities seeking a new home
*Short Back story:
After the burning of the patriarchate in Greece, the Greek Orthodox church devoted most of it's remaining wealth to funding this expedition in order to make a home for Orthodoxy in the stars. Some passengers even have dreams of creating a second Byzantium, assuming the colony will survive.

Apoapsis 208,700,000
Periapsis182, 980,290 km
Can your planet naturally support life: Yes, but it's a giant desert with temperatures ranging from 70F during the day to 40F at night. the only native life is a race of parasitic burrowers(No one knows what their host is), and various molds.

EDIT: Various vehicles and other stuff:

Spoiler:

Colony Origin: Exion Industries
Race: Human
Colony ship name: EISVc-013 Wayward Meddlers (Translated To English)
Colony intention: Military Testing Grounds
Short Back story: Having no suitable planetary environments and unable to simulate the harshest of conditions, Exion decided to send a military refit colony ship with a light escort to construct a small settlement and use the near entirety of the planet as testing area. The scorching deserts and freezing poles made it an ideal testing grounds for new and existing designs.

Planetary info:
-Given Name: Diecosd
-Orbital Name: Helios VII
-Radius: ~70km
-Temperatures max out at about 445 K, and can fall to nearly 198 K
-Day Length: ~94 Standard Hours
-Orbital Period: ~1.3 Standard Years
-53 degree tilt, in Winter the North pole accumulates all moisture present and large, relatively thing sheets of ice and snow are formed, in Summer the ice and snow melt and transfer to the Southern pole where the cycle repeats.
-Apocosd: ~1.89 AU
-Pericosdi: ~2.3 AU
-Shelter Complex Location: 23.3km North of Equator

Application:
Colony Origin: Librarian Empire
Race: Librarians
Colony ship name: Machina
Colony intention: Scientific gathering, wealth
*Short Back story:

The Librarian Empire is here purely for scientific date, nothing more, nothing less. They decided that, rather than taking an entire system and claiming it, they would jump along the Helios colonization effort. It would provide additional data. Over 50 Librarian Corporations backed the project, but it is headed by the Libraria Archive, the government funded research effort

Planetary info:

Apoapsis: 42,456,998 Km
Periapsis: 37,898,001 Km
Can your planet naturally support life: Yes (Sort of)
If no, Shelter Complex Location: Perpetual twilight zone between the light and dark sides.

INFO- This planet is an extremely, EXTREMELY hot and radioactive planet, at least on the bright side. The dark side us nearly as hot, due to convection from the core. The twilight zone is cool enough for most metals to still be solid, at least, with proper shielding. It is tidally locked to Helios, and supports high-temperature metallic fauna in these twilight zones.

Application: Darkstar Corporation
Colony Origin:
Race: Bellato
Colony ship name: DIS [Darkstar Interestelar Ship] - Calypso
Colony intention: Exploration,Cientific Research and Foothold of territory
*Short Back story: The Calypso is the first ship to be sent there. Being one of the seedships created by the corporation,is the third to be used. The Odessa class colony ship can support up to 6000 life forms for 8 years and indefenitly in  cryo. While not armed to heavy combat, can produce MPC [Multi Purpose Craft] to carry planetary missions and space combat,as well as transport.Itself can launch ships, produce equipment and manufature ships up to a frigate. It spend the time open but in special ocasions can close the "hatch" to protect itself, putting up heavy shielding reverse using the darkmatter cloak as a void-shield.

Spoiler:

Planetary info: Omicron II [Something like mars]
Apoapsis: I dont know
Periapsis: Neither.
Can your planet naturally support life: Yes,but barely. Information says that before he was capable of suporting life by traces of water and oxygen, but something happened and now its a arid enviroment, with low to none breathable atmosphere and water in ice form in the poles and underground.

Shelter Complex Location: Nellis colony [A Underground complex of Shelters, research centers and production areas, constructed by robots sent before the arrival of the Calypso]

Stratelates Chrysostom paced along the catwalk suspended over the Cyprus II's cargo bay, watching the Stratiotes prepare the heavy machinery for planet fall under the watchful eyes of their Dekarchs. He had gone over the plan tens of times, but couldn't shake the feeling something would go wrong. He turned around to look at the 3 M45-A9 light tanks they had managed to bring along, seeing the teams of tank crews load chains ammunition into the large autocannon magazines. Just behind that was the row of ten Arsemus class walkers, one of the few things that the Byzantines had managed to build for themselves. The walkers were equipped with minimal life support for their occupant, a H&K LP6 light machine gun, and could 'sprint' up to 100 meters in 4 seconds. There was mention of native life at their destination, and the Patriarchate didn't want to take any chances with what was likely the be the only hope for the survival of their heritage.
[My writing really sucks right now, but I wanted to do something sooner rather than later. EDIT: It got a bit better, not as bad as it could be, also thanks for the periapsis and apoapsis numbers]

PROBE STATUS:

"Sir our probe has landed, you should have the data any second now." Stated a fairly young male, no more than 16 years old.

"Good, good. Have the shelter dome sent down to the planet in 5 hours. And tell Sandra she forgot to enable time stamps." replied a large, muscular male closer to 20 years old.

"Yes sir."

OOC: For simplicity the Librarians will be speaking english

BIC:

Directive 17 walked up to the bridge to look at the planet that was coming into view. It was vast. He could clearly see the seas of fire on the lit side, and the even hotter volcanic dark side. As he watched, a massive eruption occurred on the dark side, and within seconds, an area nearly 100 square kilometers in size was nothing but magma. Directive opened up a small scanning relay.

"Deus 2 and 3 are reporting in," said one of the Lieutenants, Medicant. "I'm feeding the data through."

"What about Deus 1?" asked Directive.

"Still hasn't reported, status unknown."

"Well, we didn't lose anything with that probe." Directive pressed a few holo-screens and tectonic data showed up on the screen. "Planet is extremely unstable, constant tectonic activity, constant geothermal activity." He turned to the Curator. "Have we got a price estimate on this?"

"If this planet is of much interest, I'd say nearly 30,000,000 bytes," he replied.

"That doesn't cover 1% of this mission."

"We'll find enough." At the end of these words, an alarm started to sound. The ship AI piped up.

>WARNING<

Extreme Gravitational Anomaly Detected

Strength at 5.5 m/s/s and Increasing

Source Unknown

>WARNING<

Directive grabbed onto the railing as the gravity pulled him to the side and the ship began rapidly turning and weaving towards the anomaly's center.

Helios (filler) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Helios (filler)   Helios (filler) Icon_minitimeFri Sep 13, 2013 8:55 pm

A large, gleaming tear opened up in realspace. As the hole grew in size, the fore of a large ship penetrated out of it, the hole widening along with the hull-tight slipspace shielding, which shone in its most visible from - grid of bright blue hexagons. With the aft of the very large cruiser now out of slipspace, the hole closed immediately. The ship's hull gleamed against the light from Helios, the intricate orange lines and markings against the seamless white hull dotted by many articulated mechanisms and shield dispensers. As the sensors scanned the vicinity for hostiles and the shield dispensers spat out the thin orange hexagons making up the normal shield system, which faded as they fell into place, the DRADIS picked up 3 smaller slipspace ruptures and marked them as friendlies - their escort had arrived from a patrol mission in another system not much farther than the one Wayward Meddlers had come from - among the escort was the EISVf-1029 Innocuous, EISVf-1033 Deadman's Requiem, and EISVp-88000. The quartet of ships headed onwards to Diecosd.

The iconic triple beep resounded all throughout the 3 active cryo decks, 5 of the original cryo decks had been converted to military storage such as vehicles, weapons, and ammunition. The 312 pods hissed open, steam being quickly vented back into the storage canisters holding a dedicated supply of water for the cryo pods. A large portion of the crew - many scientists - stepped out of the pods, and were greeted by the marine company stationed aboard Wayward'. On the bridge, communications officers were picking up the signals from automated construction ships that had prepared the vast planetary compound nearly 4 standard months prior, they then sent the incoming data to telemetry crews who made notes of specifics on the compound and the surrounding area. The main bridge entrance slid open, a handful of officers entered, fresh from cryo sleep. The large shutters covering the main viewing window opened, revealing the dusty yellow planet ahead. In the distance, predominately white specks could be seen in orbit of it - the construction drones. The sublight engines were set to maximum in order to meet the arrival deadline.

== In the CIC aboard Wayward Meddlers ==
Commander Rau and his CO Hughes watched the orange wireframe sphere hovering above the holotable slowly begin to fill in with detail as telemetry crews inputted the data sent back from the construction drones. A few locations had markers of varying colors identifying them, there was only one green marker which indicated the location of Alpha Complex.
"How long until the map is finished?" Rau asked to anyone who would answer.
"It'll be about an hour until full mapping is complete including scans, sir," a First Lieutenant piped up from behind his console.
"Hughes, I'm headed down to port observation to take a look myself, keep an eye on things," The Commander said in a casual tone.
"Aye, sir." Hughes walked off to check on other officers while Rau exited the room, his white overcoat adorned with orange emblems flapped as he took off with a brisk pace out of the room.

== In the bridge aboard Deadman's Requiem ==
The captain had ordered all crew to be on standby in case anything went wrong as there were 3 other identified factions in the system and any non-allied ship was considered to be a threat until proven otherwise.
"Sweep 47 completed, no DRADIS contacts," An Ensign announced loudly.
The 5 medium-sized turrets on the ship swiveled around slowly, prepared to track an incoming target, even though none had yet been found.

Directive kept holding on as gravity increased... and increased

5.8 m/s/s

7.8 m/s/s

9.0 m/s/s

The counter went up to 9.7 m/s/s, and the ship groaned as some of the bulkheads were pulled apart. Several crew in the bridge lost their grip and fell to the wall, smacking it with audible force.

And right then, it stopped. The counter rapidly decreased, back down to 0. Directive pulled himself up. "What the fuck was that?" he asked, extremely confused. Medical teams were entering as he spoke, to treat those who had fallen nearly 40 meters to the wall at 1 G.

"Unexplained gravitational anomaly," replied the AI. "Likely gravitational eddies caused by the unique radiation profile of the star. No other explanation matches the sensor data."

"And where is it, exactly?" Directive helped up the Curator, who was struggling to lift himself off of the ground.

"Anomaly encountered about 400,561 km, rapidly decreased after 398,003."

"That's just about the edge of the planet's gravitational influence."

"Correct, meaning the anomaly is likely caused by a warping effect, previously seen on Klier IV."

"Then anything moving to the planet will have to navigate the eddies. Any idea on plotting safe courses?" Directive moved up to the console and brought up a previous scan map of the planet.

"Mapping the entire gravitational network of the planet is the best option, though the timescale is too massive for this ship to accomplish within a reasonable time span."

"What about a sensor network?"

"Out of all options, that is the most logical. Unfortunately, constructing the drones will take at least 2 standard weeks."

"What's the time estimate for mapping the gravitational network?"

"Another two weeks, once all drones are in place." Directive sighed and pulled up a trajectory map. The encounter had put them on an incorrect trajectory. With a few adjustments, they were back on track, though 2 days behind schedule.

"We're already 2 days behind schedule now, and we have the first civilian research ships incoming in one week, just enough time to build a safe complex. If we can't guarantee a safe navigation path, then this whole operation will fail."

"We could land on the surface," interjected the Curator. "Then we could 3D print everything we need."

"This ship is not equipped for surface landings," replied a technician, who was inspecting damage. "Though we could theoretically land, it is highly unlikely the ship could ascend again."

"Even without most of our cargo, since that's headed to the surface anyway?" replied the Curator.

"Possibly. But it's a dangerous plan."

"Then that's what we'll do," replied Directive. "Spool up the 3D printers, and prepare ground teams. As soon as we touch down, we'll start our task." Directive walked up to the main bridge as the technician rushed off to the engineering bay to prepare the printers. "Patch me through to Libraria."

== Wayward Meddlers CIC ==
"Sir, long range sensors are receiving anomalous readings in heat signature movement."
"What kind of anomalies, lieutenant," Hughes had been waiting nearly half an hour for the Commander to return.
"We're running simulations now, sir."
"Good, I don't want anything getting in our way."

== Wayward Meddlers Port Observation ==
Rau stood in front of the large window spanning almost the length of the room. Out of it, he could clearly see the planet ahead. Large, yellow colored storms scoured the surface, leaving tracts of sand and dirt. Scans had revealed that it had once probably supported some form of liquid ocean, but was now in an unfit orbit to now support such natural features. Suddenly, the door opened and in walked one of the navigations officers. The Commander recognized him from the long line out of Cryo Deck C.
"I sure hope we don't lose the base in those storms before we can get down there, Commander."
"We better not, I mean, we've got a locater beacon in the damn thing."

== Deadman's Requiem Bridge ==
"Captain, long range scans have shown minor gravitational anomalies around most of these planets."
"Have we found any near Diecosd?"
"Only minor ones, any affects will be negligible, sir."
"Keep up the good work."
"Aye, sir."

A dull metal thung was heard throughout the ship as it hit the large metal landing pad. It quickly grew dark as the ship descended below ground, and the blast doors closed above the SCS-012986. The room was first flooded with a coolant then with an oxygen-nitrogen mixture. Six offloading ramps were connected to the ship, three on each side. Robots and crew began moving crates of various essentials such as food, water, and many forms of equipment.

After everything was offloaded and organized into it's designated areas, the crew quickly set to equipping drones with mining equipment, and setting them off to mine ores. About 10 drones were assigned to constructing a comms array, then to set up various sensors.

== Wayward Meddlers CIC ==
"Commander, we have achieved synchronous orbit and are prepping landing craft."
"How long until the first launch time?" Commander Rau had grown impatient, they had traveled so far and now that they were so close he was just itching to get down on the surface. He had arranged to be on the second landing party.
"ETA is 23 minutes, sir."

== Wayward Meddlers Hangar A ==
Flight crews had been preparing the landers since they dropped out of slipspace, the first three landing were ready to go on command. Although they originally planned to be launching the first craft almost 10 minutes ago, launch computers were picking up a faulty rail on Launch Tube C9 and technicians had to verify it and if necessary fix it even though it turned out the rail hydraulics were a bit stiff and would have had no affect on a launch. Despite this though, the first team was boarding the craft and loading cargo during this to make the most of their time and would put them back on time to their deadline before they were too far from the base launch window.

--- 22 Minutes Afterwards ---

== Wayward Meddlers Hangar A ==
"Launch Team One is ready for insertion. Launching in T-1 minute." The flight operator counted down as the large motorized arms picked the Hellfish Modules full of crew and cargo and placed them into the open slots on the first row of Hellfish Planetary Insertion Vehicles. The whir of the locks was clearly heard by the crew in the modules as the operator continued counting, "20 seconds to launch." The locks holding the Hellfish in place started unscrewing and the 9 total engines began to spool up. "7 seconds, 6 seconds, 5 seconds, 4, 3..." The locks detached and the pipe valves sealed and popped off with an inaudible hiss in the vacuum. "...2, 1, launch." The microjets on top fired, sending the Hellfish off, where their 5 rear engines went to full power to begin their deorbit burn.

OOC: I was hoping someone else would. Although it's been kind of fun basically have an entire RP all to myself.

BIC: A tall, white periscope-looking device rose from the rolling sand dunes. On the near-rectangular head, a red light flashed. Suddenly, large streaks of fire dotted the sky, which the device promptly began to track. The red light on its head began to flash green, then turned stopped flashing and remained green. The device retracted back into the sand, but what seemed like an earthquake began. The large piles of dirt and sand began to shake and vibrate, then large white cylinders with elaborate orange lines running vertically down them rose from the sand. It was now visible to a ground-based observer that the tops of the cylinders were not flat and in fact actually were slightly sloped and were rising. Soon, the tops had risen high enough that they had broken up into smaller triangles, sand raining off of them all the while. By now, the streaks had cleared up and now were moving down at a very fast pace, then all of the sudden their 4 VTOL engines began firing and pivoting to maneuver them towards the massive towers.
One could now see that similar to the cylinders, the craft were white with adorning orange marks yet clearly piloted, possessed no visible windows. The craft made their way at an unexpectedly high pace towards the cylinders. Each of the 7 craft were now directly above one of the 7 cylinders and began their descent into Alpha Complex.
