| That's actually a pretty respectable ship for a first post. I'm impressed. Could use some color, though. | |

| Thanks, I agree though I need to figure out how to add colour highlights and detail.
Also, I can't decide what I should do next, a corvette or a heavily armed frigate?

| For a first go that's pretty good.
Try doing something bigger. My advice for building bigger stuff is aim to build something twice as big as the thing you last built.
If you want colour use wool (but don't make the hull out of wool) or diamond or lapis or gold or emerald blocks.
And the detail should come pretty easy once you start building bigger stuff.

| Also, you might consider using mods if you build it in SP, as some mod-elements can really improve your ship. For example I have noticed that IC²-unisolated cables look very good as barrels for smaller guns and RP2-microblocks can extremely improve the detail. (also, I have wondered how RP2 magtubes would look as mass drivers) | |

(also, I have wondered how RP2 magtubes would look as mass drivers) could do, but then i would have to remove all the mod bits when futurecraft comes out wouldnt i? Also ive uploaded and finished the frigate, not sure if i like it though, might have to redo it. Any suggestions would be very welcome. -----------------------------------------------------------------------edit----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Added the whirlwind class drone carrier, by far my best ship so far. Also, yes i have built the frigate and the carrier today, im not just uploading random ones from ages ago.

Erm I would wait before going into the race to construct a dreadnought because they are at least 900 m big. Only two people have started and one of them was the one to think of the futurecraft idea.

Actually, laserbillys dreadnought is only 900 meters long, anyway, if i have to spend 6 months on this making it enormous. So be it.

A dreadnought would be smaller than 9km on minecraft, because if you've ever tried making a kilometre ship, 9km seems pointless, and with a height limit of 256, 9km ships are fairly pointless. But other than that, from what you have there the ships looks like its going to be good, but I wouldn't say it's a dreadnought if I were you because Jedi or someone is going to have a go at you, if your in doubt of what class your ship is, just call it a cruiser, nobody will challenge that.

| @ prototype Hmmm whats the size limit for a cruiser? That wip pic i showed is VERY wip, that was basicly just the cockpit. + spikes and things i am gonna try and make this 1300-1500 blocks long. (mcedit modular hull With big spikeywings sort of like the whirlwind carrier X10) I have a reason for the dreadnoght bieng so smal though, im theming my army around hit and run tactics so big cumersome ships are impractical. hence the mini-dreadnoughts. What class of ship should i put it as? I aggree that this would not be a true dreadnought but its not realy a cruiser either. So is it a cruiser or a dreadnoght basicly? Help? @ emporer_revan thanks | |

@ emporer_revan thanks Call it anything but a dreadnought, because people don't tend to like it when you call something a dreadnought for some stupid reason. Battle cruiser is always a decent choice. And for your fifth ship I doubt you'll get it to 1000 plus blocks, no offence, but not many people can make 1k ships, and none of these 1k ships were part of their first fleets. But if you can, try and pull it off

| Just wanted to offer some advice if you're interested. If you intend to make a huge modular ship, make sure that it's wide/tall enough to not look funny and that it has a large enough thruster to accelerate the whole thing. I try to keep my thrusters between 1/3 and 1/6 of my ship's total length, and for the width, I think somewhere between half and 1/6 looks fine.
Once again, not trying to step on any toes here, just offering friendly advice.
Also, I think anything over 1 km can easily qualify for dreadnaught status. But only if it's meant for the main line-of-battle. If it's a carrier, then I think the designations should go:
0-250m escort carrier 250-500m light carrier 500-750m carrier 750m-1km battle carrier 1-1.5km war carrier 1.5km+ super carrier

I ended up turing it into a cruise ship.

| There isn't a single ship sizing system that everyone agrees on. That's been a matter of some debate in the past, and with the recent dreadnaught craze it seems to be flaring up again. Like the people above this said, 'cruiser' is a good term. It's very generic. You could call anything between a hundred blocks long and ten thousand blocks long a 'cruiser' and no-one would complain. The problem is when someone builds a quite small ship and gives it a really big name. | |

| After pming Last_Jedi_Standing about the size of a small dread and reading laserbillys ship sizes on the terran trade confederation topic, i have decided to completely start over on my cruiser/dread. The way its going to work is if it reaches 1000 blocks long i will call it a dread if not its a cruiser. The design is below. Hope you like Any suggestions on the design of the ship would be very helpful. | |

I quite like the design. However, the features are too large for it to be a ship of around 1km in length. The parts are just proportioned like something you'd find on a fighter. I know, the drawing is a rough sketch, i not really an artist lol. The wings will inevitably end up a bit more than half that size. Also its meant to look a bit fighterish as it isnt so much a ship, but an engine with guns, really big guns. Although i aggree some of the more enormous features need to be toned down a bit, otherwise it is going to look like someone took the gunship from avatar and resized the image so it can be classed as a dread.

I don't put engines on them, so there's nothing to end them with. Usually, this results in a pretty blob of blocks that aren't recognizable as a ship.
