Just an idea, each faction has their own specialty on the tech tree.

I.E. The Commonwealth's medical technology outstrips everyone (everyone) else's, because that's their main technological focus.

NeoRome might master gravity control, living on a black hole as they do.

Or what have you.

[Admins judge whether specialties are OP. I doubt having god-like medical is OP, Shiva, what say you?]

Wormholes/warping and particle blasters are our specialty.
Almost half of our science is in these fields, which is a lot since we are doing science on pretty much everything.

Specializing in Plasma weaponry and elite light infantry.

We also get a boost to manufacturing, as our many mobile and immobile shipyards are perhaps the most extensive in the galaxy.

NeoRome doesn't actually master Gravity Control. We don't live in a black hole.

We mastered Fusion and Energy Containment technology, having the most efficient Fusion Reactors in the universe. Take NeoRome. It's a giant reactor of a planet.

Having god-like capabilities in anything is verboten. A specialization will put you at Stage Four of one tech path or another while the rest of your non-specialized techs start at Stage Two, like everyone else's.

There are not, as yet, temporal technologies on the tech tree. They'll be a hell-and-gone way-out-there tech split down the Research Efficiencies path, most likely.

I thought this was about the planned "unique tech" every faction was about to have.
Well, the EEs specializetion in common techs will be robotics.

Advanced artificial intelligence. Why? Because they're crucial for our starships, space stations, large factories, SRMBT devices and machines, what have you. You probably didn't know this as I've always been bad with sharing anything. Including knowledge. And the RTA took my first idea then the EE took my second. That's just what happens when you stay in bed for the majority of the day.

So there are specializations, and one or two unique techs?

So I can have a defense specialization, and then have unique Yttrous tech that does, say, 1.5 times damage to unshielded targets, with that rate increasing by .1 every level?

So will there be temporal technology because if not then I don't know what technology to have.

Well, I like to put in a unique Redundant Shielding system in my ships that allows for the easier and more effective overlap of multiple cores. As far as offence goes, we mainly focus on plasma weapons but always include a superheavy main gun, like an accelerator or a Large Plasma Lance.

I also think that specialties should be somewhat unique instead of a generic boost. Realistically, not everyone will be following the same path with their technology.

You don't have to pick a specialty, and I'm thinking of maybe implementing a penalty for picking your two(maybe slowed research in non-specialized areas?).

I'd say give a starting bonus to those who don't want them instead. Some people, like me, want to be able to evolve some technologies along an independent line. For instance, my plasma weapons might be totally different from the Taln ones.

it is knowledge of gravity well generators. it means it isnt mastered, or really special (meaning anyone can have it). (also it kind of seams like somthing everyone should have, so it would be nice if it was added to a list of things that cannot be claimed)
