| This is an idea I have quite firmly affixed in the recesses of my mind, but I need the community’s approval for it to be added.
As I see it, the "tech tree" should be somewhat similar to Minecraft's own achievement setup. The major difference would be that it is specifically associated with the crafting of a specific item, block, or other technology. Not only that, but it is impossible to craft object further down the tech tree without first creating the more basic ones.
This will give a sense of progress, and means that people will have to devote time and resources to the trying out of new crafting recipes, attempting to create a new item on the tech tree.
What do you think? | |

| If you mean that you must craft things first, then okay, but if you have to sit there and pump diamonds into a "research console" then I dissaprove. | |

| I like the main idea but what happens when someone just post all of the recipes? | |

Meh... It's just like a spoiler in any game/movie. Some people would like to have the recipes fed to them, others would like to spend hours trying different combinations to make a Tier-10 Warp Drive (not being added).

| You can prohibit making the warp drive until you research it, and then the recipe is in a recipe book. | |

| You’re not using up (much) resources in experimenting with crafting. You would randomly lace down the items/blocks you think will make the item/block you wish to craft, and if you can, problem solved. If you can’t, then you will try a different arrangement, and so on, until you find the correct combination.
If people are really determined, they will spread recipes around. There is nothing we can do to stop them. I’m sure Notch probably didn’t want people to spread around all the recipes when Minecraft first came out either.
And remember, you still have to craft things in order to unlock higher tier items/blocks. Even with the recipes, it is an expensive and time-consuming business. Of course, normally, without the recipes, you would have a long waiting period between when you find recipes, giving a better sense of accomplishment and progress.

| More like frustration and annoyance, followed by brief interludes of slight accomplishments. Have some hint system or recipe book. Minecraft isn't about finding the recopies, it's about building stuff with them. | |

| Perhaps "reverse engineering". If you find a piece of technology, you can put it in the crafting grid to craft itself (I know, but that's all I can think of right now) and it will unlock all the items/blocks beneath it in the tech-tree. | |

If u did that then you could just buy a piece that is high in the tech tree form some trader and unlock most of the tree in one go

| Have it actually work like a tech tree, where you need to unlock tier 1 before tier 2, and tier 2 before tier 3, so even if you have all the recipes, you need to take it one tier at a time and can't just buy an end-game universal hyperdrive and unlock the entire tech tree in one go. | |
