How will Earth be destroyed/humanity wiped out/etc.





As wacky or as realistic as you like. My theory? Humanity will lose it's war with itself and some bugger will thermonuke the planet until it glows.

The Crawling Chaos will lead us into the wastes, past the battling ranks of the Elder Ones and the Deep Ones, to our doom in the mountains of madness overlooking the mad plain of Leng.

Some super hardcore Homestuck fans will create SBURB Beta, which will end the world.

Well, a Strigiforme invasion won't end the world, so I'd have to say a few billion years from now when the sun expands and its outer layer consumes the earth.

US does something stupid. The UK breaks ties with US. Russia and China invade US. US launches all of their Nukes mostly at China and Russia but a few hit some 'random' countries in the Middle East. War breaks out in Central Europe. UK tries to establish the New British Empire. Ireland flips shit and invades UK. UK fires Nukes at Russia, China, and US or what's left of it. The Cataclysmic Tribes and Mutations fight for what's left of Earth.

While CEO's and King Obama laugh at us from Space.

Heck, they don't even know if it was the US or Britain, so they fire at the UK as well. UK is mad at Russia or something, so they fire at russia. Russia sees this, suspects America, but launches nukes at several different targets to make sure they have all bases covered. All the world explodes, and that which isn't bombed is irradiated until sterile. Humanity not only has the ability to extinguish itself, it could happen with one launch. This is the idea of Mutually Assured Destruction.



Now, to be a downer to the whole Elysium thing. I find it extremely unlikely that a society like that would evolve from the one we have now.

I don't get why everyone is under the impression that nuclear war is just around the corner...it's a little thing called Mutually Assured Destruction which is this invisible cockblock that only 1st world countries are affected by. Naturally we see countries like Korea and Pakistan trying to flex their dicks and one up their neighbors by building nukes, but with the exception of perhaps good ole Kim Jong land none of them will be used - they're primarily a deterrent if anything.

Naturally, terrorist groups take a big middle eastern dump on social conventions and thus ignore that kind of stuff, but it's highly unlikely that nuclear weapons will actually be used in any significant capacity now that everyone and their grandma has one (well, not quite, but you know that every country is going to get them eventually, the US's attempts at preventing them from gaining our edge notwithstanding).

That was sort of my point. If a country launches a nuclear bomb, they are bombing themselves. No country would do that, not even Syria. Dictators want to be in power, not to be evil. Nuclear war waged by a country is pretty much impossible. If it was by a terrorist organization, slightly more possible, but still highly unlikely, and it brings up the question of how the hell did they get a nuclear weapon in the first place. I can't really speak to the motives of terrorists, so I really don't know.

Also, not to get off topic, but why are we afraid of nuclear weapons when biological weapons have the ability to be so much more destructive, and don't flatten cities?

Biological weapons have yet to be applied on any noticeable scale, while the US bombed 2 cities to oblivion in as many days and the world has lived in fear of that kind of power for all the years since. Some terrorist group needs to use a bioweapon on Atlanta, then we'll all be scurred of them. And blame Obama for not doing anything, because american logic.

Actually, the US used a sort of 'tracer' disease as a test for bio weapons. They found that when dispersed in a public place, it took a very small amount of time to get everyone infected.


They also don't know the side effects of those diseases.
