| My Dad called us from his base in Afghanistan like he does every morning to see how we are doing and asked me if I knew about Disney buying Lucas Films. Of course, I did. Then he told me something that will ruin my day. (by the way Disney buying Lucas Films isnt bad. These Star Wars films are still written and made by Lucasfilms employees, but Disney owns them now. calm down.) He said that a new Indiana Jones has been announced, IRobot 2 is being made, and INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 AND 3???
1: Indiana Jones was RUINED with aliens in The Crystal Skull.
2: IRobot was based on a short story by Isaac Asimov. There is no number 2. (edit) Irobot is barely based on he story at all, not even set in the same world. Still though.
3: Independence Day had a good ending. Seriously, the aliens don't need to come back.

| Another franchise that ended it's life cycle. It will feel sort of a cliche but has a chance to get something good outta it. | |

Actually, the writer and director both always wanted to do a sequel, but specifically stated that they didn't want to milk the cash cow. They wanted to wait until they had a good concept, a good story, and then they would do a sequel. They finally got back together and decided "Y'know what? I think the time's right for another."

I, Robot is very loosely based of the collection of short stories of the same name. However, the movie has really very little to do with the book. It isn't even really set in the same world. Its story is entirely new, so there's no reason for there not to be a sequel. Now, if we're talking about I, Robot, it should be noted that Asimov wrote a number of other books in the same series. Those could be adapted to movies.

| Slightly off-topic:
Kob, just a thing, don't mention where your father is stationed. i.e. OPSEC. I probably doesn't matter, but still.
Ontopic:
It's effectively impossible to make any new SW movies. As has been stated by Lucasfilm, many of the books written for SW cover the events after Ep. VI, up to several hundred (thousand?) years later. Thus, unless Disney oblivates the novels, the plot post-movies is already set in stone.
(Can you imagine the screaming?)

(Can you imagine the screaming?) Nah, the story only goes 137 years after Ep. VI. It's before the movies that it goes a long way.

| Wut? Independence Day 2&3? Did they get bloody inspired by XCOM:Enemy Unknown? I hope they didn´t, but if they did, they might as well make it right. | |

(Can you imagine the screaming?) The story isn't set in stone unless George Lucas said it was, and I'm pretty sure somewhere, at some time, he said he didn't support the established past and future of his movie series.

| independence day 2?
Why not make a sequel of a film that could really use a sequel
I'm waiting for district 10, but I have a funny feeling we might see that in 2013 with the three years thing.
And I can totally see Disney profiteering massively on all of these, and in the process destroying the series.
