Necroposting

I have seen it everywhere, and it is starting to become a problem. Just about every useless topic is beginning to be Necro-Posted, and it really takes away from discussion on topics that actually deserve to be discussed. Consider this a warning.

For those who don't know what necroposting is, it's posting in a topic that hasn't had a post in over 7 days. While I can see some topics are good to be revived, many topics should stay dead.

People need to know. This is a problem.

I revived my trumpet one in off topic for a reason. Is that a problem?

And, in a way, yes. The last post was 2 months ago, yours. And it didn't seem to be deserving of a necropost.

I agree with this. Necroposting is something that has annoyed me for some time now.

Have a look at the date, it gives answers

Well it will be "caught in action" ... Actually is it possible to necropost and then delete your post ?

Official Rules on Necroposting:

If a topic is a week old, consider before posting.
One month: Think hard before posting.
3 months: Real hard think before necroing.

Remember, you can also start a new topic.

If you know you are necroing something, don't post NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECCCCCCCCCCCCROOO.

Post something like this:

"I know this is a necro, but I looked through this topic and I think it deserves to live. In fact, I have some new info that might pertain to the discussion:

[normal post here]"

I'm assuming this doesn't apply to adding stuff to your own Ship Design topic. Right?

Also, I now have a fourth, shiny new star! Does that do anything for me now? Like allow me to post in the member's lounge?

Right. That would fall under the category 'New and Relevant Information'.

Whoa, this was a useful thread. I'm unlocking it for now. If it becomes a problem, it can be locked again. In fact, I'm gonna sticky it. This is something people need to pay attention to.
