| Now, a topic that I don't believe has actually been discussed in any sort of depth - how are our ships going to move? Yes, yes, Copernicus will give us the "how", what I speak of is more of a "How fast?". I mean, you're not going to have just developed space technology and suddenly have a warp drive! I figure that like with most tech here, you'd have tiers. This will also give us a bit more flex in our AMP (I think that's the new Multiplayer term someone coined on the regular forums), letting one server have highly advanced technology in accordance with its' age and research investment, while a newer server would have lesser tech. Here's my ideas.
Tier One: Basics Rocketry, first solid fuel and then at 1.5 you'd get liquid fueled engines like we do today. Low speed, relatively, and huge fuel consumption.
Tier Two: Long-range, Low Speed Solar sails and the like, and ion drives ( though those count less as you can get an ion-drive equipped ship up to half lightspeed... theoretically)
Tier Three: Direct-to-Planet Fusion and plasma torches (the latter of which we are developing... gotta love retired NASA astronaut-scientists.) Greater speed and power, but also require a lot of fuel, like Tier One. You'll start to need inertial compensators about now.
Tier Four: Interstellar The first hyper/wormhole drives, letting you travel quickly (or instantaneously, but you'd need to have a wormhole somewhere in your system.. or near it...) between the stars. Sublights become available, great speed and power, enabling you to move quickly and accelerate fast. Inertial compensators are a must.
Tier Five: Gravity Drive Manipulates gravity itself into localized areas of heavy gravity that your ship falls into, flinging your ship about at massive accelerations of up to 800 earth-standard gravities. Your compensator becomes much more efficient and is used as a gravity sump for all that lethal acceleration, making it survivable.
Anyone else?

| I'm not sure how much tiering will occur in general, I personally don't think there going to use all of those steps. Not that im saying its a bad idea, but I just think their going to focus more on actually making a ship then working up a techtree. And in that case you can substitute tiering for size, the more progressed you are the bigger and therefor stronger ships you can make. | |

| Ah, but that's the thing - there will be tiering. With weapons and components and all that. That is already in the plans, I think. Or it should be if it isn't. It would be better to have something to work towards, capability wise, rather than just "build it bigger, put more engine rooms in it, make it faster." That's... just BS and not fun at all. | |

| Interesting ideas you propose, Shiva. It is important to keep in mind that this is Futurecraft, not Moderncraft, and our ships should reflect that. I do believe that some sort of tiering system should be in place, especially if we are not going to disclose the recipes for all the parts of the mod. However, I suggest that we remove the solid and liquid rocket fuels, along with rockets all together, on the account that they are too primitive. | |

| The easiest tier system would be to base everything around power cores that are harder to build and fuel.
There would be easy engines that would be little harder than making funaces. however, they could only output a small amount of energy.
This small amount of energy would be able to power a small engine and maybe a weapon.
The speed would be determined by a simple calculation in the mass of the ship. (assign every block a weight and calculate the total before putting it through an equation that would give a speed based on the power allocated to the engines. The heavier the slower)(a later update could allow power transfers)
After you have the ability to and need for a larger ship, you could create a larger engine that would power more and more powerful engines and weapons.
This would make tiers easy to implement as there would be no unwieldy system of leveling, and there would be no more work than implementing the blocks themselves and applying them the correct crafting configuration.

This, Tony, is called an idea. I was suggesting it, and having tiers based on what your propulsion actually is makes far more sense than on what fuel it eats. And, in the OP, did I mention anywhere that we wouldn't have multiple workbenches?

Probably won't affect hyper much as he only hops on for a bout of trolling now and then, as is the case here

In hyper's defense, this hasn't been discussed officially or in depth. Not that I know of, anyway.

| Oh, cut the crap cats. Anyone with third grade level comprehensive skills could see that this is something that will not be tolerated on this forum, even the rules state as such. Hyper's just being hyper here. | |
