| Post robots, of all kinds, shapes, whatever. Must be robotic in nature. Ponies are not ok- Robotic ponies are OK, as long as it isn't organic in nature. Like this: - Spoiler:

That is exactly the way I would describe it. Great CG, annoying cinematography, interesting (if unoriginal) concept, just enough character development to make the sad moments sad, and a half-assed plotline. In my book, just under "Good" and just above "Mediocre"

Die fugging commie :DDDD winter war nevar forget x----DD Seriously though, death to communists As someone who's traveled to slums of third world countries and seen the piss poor quality of life there, I think Elysium hits the allegory spot on. There is a tangible problem of capitalism just up and failing in those places - the poor get poorer, and the rich get richer. In Elysium's case the Earth humans can never aspire to reach the utopia orbiting above them as they have to bribe officials with huge sums of money to get a ticket, and even should they try to land without one they just end up getting shot to pieces (see: lethal measures used on people crossing the border). We as the fortunate 1st world citizens look down on these immigrants, referring to them as 'aliens' and making blind accusations out of loathing for the 'scum' that would dare attempt to fracture our society, even if they just seek advanced healthcare or jobs that pay more than five cents an hour. Seeing any parallels there? Am I in any position to do anything about it? Fuck no. But it's thought provoking nonetheless.

| I know, but Communism is still fatally flawed(tragedy of the commons) and inherently opposed to my religion/culture/mindset. I'm sort of involved in a project that might end up making the third world a bit more self sufficient, so don't think I'm just saying 'HURR MUH FREE MARKET' with no regard for the lives of others. - Vinyl wrote:

- All I can say is that while I'm certainly not a free-market eve online capitalist, I found Elysium extremely unlikely. While I understand that a wide gap between classes could form, the craphole the surface-dwellers are in isn't logical. What did the Elysians do, nuke the planet from orbit once they got up there? I haven't seen the movie, just the trailer.
You see top dog government officials acquiring tickets to Elysium via their connections, leaving Earth in the care of robots and a ton of vacant political positions. What you get, then, is a government primarily comprised of enforcement bots that can't be everywhere and feddies that are only interested in lining their own pockets. Generally think what happens in Honduras and other countries on a much larger scale.

| Basically, it's a bleak foretelling of what could happen if the governing separate themselves from the governed entirely, something that has happened and is happening, but FUTURE with SHAKY CAMERA! | |
