The Freedom-class was a class of Confederation capital ship which first entered service in 2681 and saw service in the Contact  wars. A 'megacarrier' designed to serve as both a launching platform for more than two hundred fighters and as a mobile starbase, they were envisioned to replace almost every ship in a traditional carrier battle group with one vessel. A total of ten ships were completed between 2xxx and 2xxx. By the end of the war, four of the ships had been lost.

The Freedom-class represented a shift in the direction of carrier design undertaken by the Confederation towards the end of the 2Xth century. Still reeling from the massive financial cost of the Contact War and recovering from the tributes payed for the owls, the Confederation Navy realized that it could not afford to keep fielding large carrier battle groups. However, the need for force projection and the ability to interdict pirates and enemy raiders still existed. The Freedom was designed to contain all the necessary aspects of a battle group within one hull. More of a mobile star base than a simple carrier, the class possesses its own research and development, intelligence and supply divisions, combining roles normally filled by specialist ships.

The class grew to a total of ten ships, all of which saw service during the war. They distinguished themselves in combat, though at a heavy price. Mistral Sea and Jutland were destroyed at some point during the conflict, while Paragon is still listed as missing in action. Also missing is TCS Tripoli, which never returned from her patrol and is assumed lost. Port Broughton was scuttled in 2xxx after fighting a delaying action to allow Confederation relief forces to arrive and defend a contested system. Being a veteran of the old war,after the last battles,the TCS- Guardian is now a museum ship,orbiting around mars and almost without combat abillities [She is like the Battlestar Galactic on the beginning of the new series].

She has seem the final days commanded by Lucas Santos,a formely ace pilot of the Void Devil squadron and later promoted to Admiral after years of combat.

May I remind you, Lightspeed, that the Federation was only formed in 2865, and Earth was still fragmented under multiple governments before that (U.S, China, Brazil, etc).

Proto, if you want those kidneys, go get.

THE WAR OF THE TWIN BROTHERS


Much before the Federation is what is now,even before the war and even before the first contact,space was still a dream. With the landings on the moon being something made one time or two,the dream of conquering the final frontier was a distant possibility. In the year of 2049,the first mars mission to send humans was a sucess after the creation of the Yggdrasil Drive [ Basic nuclear engine]. After years of exploring,the first truly mars colony was made and then began the era of space exploring,albeit slowly. After 50 years,all humans residing on mars were complete martians and then wanted to split up from the earth UN comitee. When Earth negated their proposal,a small civil war began. It was the first step to create a military power based in space combat. Rockets were fitted with crude laser weaponry and battle were taking place between the two sides of humanity. When the two sides came to a agreement to stop the pointless war,the Olympus government [Mars] became part of the U.N.

The war of the Twin Brothers was the first trully interplanetary conflict and it was the first step on trying to unite governments on a global scale to control the operations in the space,creating the concepts of long range flight or space combat manuevers.
