The Shivan Alignment Empty
PostSubject: The Shivan Alignment   The Shivan Alignment Icon_minitimeMon Aug 27, 2012 8:40 pm

Name: Shivan Alignment
Gov't Type: Empire
Geography: 1 binary main-sequence star system, 3 habitable, Terra-like planets, "Manticore System"; 1 single-planet main-sequence star system, connected by wormhole, 1 habitable planet, "Basilisk System"
Population: 8 billion humans
Military: 20 million Enlisted, 500,000 officers
Ships:
2000+ Light Attack Craft (pinnaces with extra armor and guns, no FTL capability, System defense units)
~100 Frigates
338 Destroyers
210 Cruisers of all types
60 Battlecruisers
40 Battleships
20 Dreadnoughts
1 Superdreadnought

Bio:

The Shivan Alignment was founded a year after the landing of the ECS Kayleigh Adama's colony shuttles on the planet Shiva in the Manticoran star-system, the ECS an STL slow-boat whose 300 year journey from the homestar had allowed the rest of humanity to make advances in propulsion and FTL in the meantime. The million colonists who rode the boat in suspended animation were "thawed out", and set to work creating the Alignment as per the original Writ of Colonization written by the Earthling government.

Now, five hundred years later, the Alignment leads the galaxy in propulsive and weapons technologies, as well as the technologies of peace, such as manufacturing, minifacturing and orbital construction. Shivan workers are sought the galaxy over for their education and experience, often taking work on other, non-Shivan worlds, bringing their manufacturing processes and techniques up to a modern level.

The Shivan economy is largely based on the through-traffic of the massive Shivan Wormhole Junction, a 7-exit hole in reality that, depending on one's orientation on entrance, can deposit a ship - or a fleet of ships - at the corresponding exit point. The unique thing about the Junction is that the seven exits (with a rumored eighth supported by astro data) extend across the breadth and width of human-explored space, able to bring a travelling ship from the heart of Human territory to the very edges of the frontier in a matter of minutes. Also supporting the economy are three massive asteroid belts, the richest of which is known as the Blackbird Belt, and they are extensively mined by Shivan corporations.

(more to be done.)

I won't lie, that writing is good, but your ship amounts are a bit unrealistic.

Think fighter jets on the LACs, except with more endurance; and on the Frigates, think something the size of a couple tractor-trailer rigs end-to-end and about as wide as the trailer part is long. Essentially a space-submarine with a quarter of the crew of an Ohio. Edited though.

Dreads aren't that big. They're about 1km, 1.5 on the newest.

Have you ever tried making a 1km ship? Even in creative w/ Worldedit, building anything above 400 is an absolute b*** to pull off right, take Mack's dreadnought for example. Dreadnoughts would require extraordinary amounts of materials, millions of blocks. 20 just seems unfeasible to me.

You have too many big ships for your smaller ships, usually they are far more outnumbered than that.

I disagree, I think that the proportions are about right. But I also think you don't have enough territory for such large numbers. Maybe you should add a few more systems and/or colonies?

Laserbilly, you think 'big' instead of realistic.

And why is there battlecruisers and battleships..?

Are*

Battlecruisers are first-line units, with heavier firepower and armor than a cruiser but not so much as a ship-of-the-line. They're fast enough to chase down cruisers and some destroyers, and anything they can catch they can kill. Anything they can't kill, they can run away from.

Battleships, on the other hand, are outdated POSs that are going to be scrapped.

Also, why is your description so omnipotent? C'mon, choose a category and stick to it, not "We are so awesome our engineers are so educated and take over worlds singlehandedly!" Like Propulsion or Weapons, that sounds good, just one or the other, though.

In addition, consider yourself an unwelcome visitor in Taln space. A lot of people are, but you're super unwelcome. Like 'ship fire misile on u 4 no reson' unwelcome. Have a nice day.
