| With lightspeed it will take you some nice thousand years to get to the closest star so I would suggest a Jump drive ... | |

| We're using gates between systems. There's a reason for this. | |

| So you can have loading screens or time to load the area they are jumping to? Also, will the area in between gates exist? Like after going in one gate, you are in a luminous tunnel for 5 minutes, then you pop out the other gate. | |

But what are you using in system? There should be huge Space to avoiding an enorme dense of asteroids and make it possible that bigger fleets start an battle. And will it be possible to make in system connections of quantum gates ? Or are only Teleporters going to work?

Now tell me, do you really want to spend 5 minutes staring at nothing ? Doing nothing ? I don't think so. I'd prefer the loading bar.

But in the travel space, you could do all the things you could in REAL space!! Like arm the torpedoes, ready the fighters, reload the MAC, go outside--- WAIT, you cant go outside, too much radiation.

It has to do with how servers communicate with one another during the transfer process. If it's done at a single point in space with a defined pair of servers, you can keep the transition information synchronized between servers and ease the client from one to the other. Not sure how big of an impact that will actually make, but that's been the plan for a long time. There's still intrastelar travel to consider, though. There's not a whole lot finalized with that.

| Here's how I see it. Server # 1 says to #2 "Hey, you there?"
#2: "Yes"
#1 starts some fancy phase jump stuff and makes them feel like they are in a wormhole
#1: "Hey, download these giant dreadnoughts"
#2: Okay.
#1: Tell me when your done.
#2: Okay, done.
#1 transfers the clients and they come out of the wormhole.
It will take time, and a loading screen is worse than a wormhole, even a simple one.

Actually it would just take about four years. The closest star, Alpha Centauri, is 4.24 light years from the sun, so with the speed of light it would take 4.24 years to get there.

Wrong, they use the power gained by splitting water in a container with a Ytterbium fuel rod.

in other words: "at light speed it would take 4.5 years to reach the closest star." But ya. still a while. warp is faster than light though ENGAGE. *startrek next gen theme plays*

| What to people think about static dimensions, as in something you can set up shop in instead of just using to travel from point A to point B? | |

As in... *you jump to hyperspace* *enemy fortress waiting for you* *you die* ?

? Yes, just like that. Thoughts? *edit* Okay, what I meant was something similar to the nether where there is actually stuff to see in the other dimension. You could make it to where you need high end technology to stay anchored instead of instantly passing through, and then make it sort of like an end-game area with rare resources and strong enemies. Something like that.
