A Modest Proposal(not the poem)

I had the idea of doing some form of big kick starting event for the day this mod is launched and decided to tell all you, little forum people, about to see what you thought. Also, I do this in the hopes that this may happen.

This means we have a server set up and try to promote a launch date at some point (not soon, from what I can tell on progress). The start can be anywhere from a fresh server to a map with serval ships preloaded and ready to create a since of excitement among players. Now each of these have their own advantages and disadvantages: for the first the time it takes players to set up and go may drive off a burst of excitement that everyone will have but causes a greater sense of accomplishment. While the latter choice gives a set up for insta-conflict, but also sets up for a quick domination.

So what do you think? I do have more ideas on the matter but want your opinions on what to do.. if anything.

Oh and this doesn't really go with anything else so OFF -TOPIC will be home for this topic. I will probably lurk for awhile.

There's no way we can do an all-at-once release. Certainly not for multiplayer. There will already be a (limited) galaxy when the game releases, populated by beta testers.
Also, it's much more important to get reliable feedback and reporting from people we can count on to do the job diligently than it is to have a showy grand opening.

But that's just my own priorities. There are other people involved with this project who may be more interested in handling that side of things.

After it is in mid alpha, or gets popular, shouldnt we limit joining to this forum so we arent spammed by people saying, i want haz pasor!, or, i woant mod permisios. Then, for all the noobs, we can set up a separate forum, and only induct the most legit and cool players from that forum into this one. All members up to locking would be kept in the forum, and members could invite 2 friends, who would have limited privilidges.

Alright, but only under the condition that I can kick current forum members over to the noobie board if they get too uppity.

Why not? That would actually be a feasable punishment.... Also, the nooby board is a seperate forum entirely, and this one gets cloaked.

ON TOPIC:

I think a mod spotlight would be more effective for what your proposing (yogscast/captinsparkls would do perfectly), as well as actuly getting that good teaser trailer out on the youtubes.

Absolutely not, until it is ready. Nothing good comes from attracting that kind of attention when you are not prepared to deliver.

Read a few pages of the Zeppelin thread sometime and ask yourself if that's what we really want.

I disagree. This should be the 'n00b forum' and Shiva should deploy a crawler to take all the posts here and deposit them onto a self hosted server running PHPbb.
