| I saw this image today. It's alluding to concerns about 0x10 c, but seems strangely prophetic for us. We've talked at length about features and content, but how do we make sure it's used the way we want? People avoid making nice things that aren't locked away on anti griefing creative servers. How do we get people to invest the time to build cities without resorting to that? The group play is relevant, too. How do we get enough people in one place to form groups and work as a team? I've seen it on pvp team servers, but that's a pretty niche group. Can we make it more accessible without removing the challenge? Can we have a ship that takes 20 people to fly without alienating the soloists? And yes, I think we've discussed this before, but it's been a while and I'd like to get a fresh take on it. | |

| We can make default groups that fight each other - something we create and run to insure its all fair, fun and that one faction won't overrun the others. It takes away some freedom on the other hand but you have to sacrifice something ... | |

| I don't want ships that take 20 people to fly. I want to be able to control my entire armada by myself. | |

Those don't exist in the military.

| Even if , in some amazing way, ppl manage to pull off futurecraft I don't think its even possible to make cleaver enough AIs for ship control. Lets start with the basic of basics - path finding, in a randomly generated world around randomly built ships. it wouldn't be more cleaver than a normal minecraft mob. If someone finds an efficient way to find paths around dynamic settings such as this I suggest him to rush to the patent office and go make millions on what companies try to achieve since the appearance of dynamic worlds .
Basically all I try to say is that yes there will be ppl piloting ships. If you want to command armadas directly go play some sins.

| This is space. No rolling mountains, random caves, or precarious cliffs. It's nothing. How that would be harder than designing pathfinding for vanilla MC, I don't know. AI can already drive entities in various mods to very high degrees of effectiveness, this would be no different. All they have to do is follow you. | |

| Even if the AI was no smarter than NPC starfighters in Star Wars: Battlefront, it'd work. | |

| Well, normally in anything multiplayer you have to provide a very specific goal to get people to work together. | |

| That in conjunction with limited amounts of players makes AI the only feasible option. | |

| We could have permanent factions run by DEVs or other major people from the forum, an they could make sure everything is... adequate. | |

| I dont. maybe overlords isnt the right direction for this mod. Maybe an opressive Galactic government works for some people, but being shot out of the sky right after building mys ship isnt to fun. Maybe tone it down to intergaalactic peace keepers. Jedi sh*t people, Jedi sh*t. | |

| Well we can have an empire that has special admin powers, so we can destroy all of those creative servers. | |

I guess creative servers will be banned from the interplanetary FTL-Network or made impossible.

I guess creative servers will be banned from the interplanetary FTL-Network or made impossible. Or that... But where's the fun in just banning those servers when you could destroy every ship and use the scraps to make even more ships to destroy even more creative servers!

| Well... Creative Servers would have an immense advance because they don´t have to mine their stuff meaning that they do need almost no effort for making huge fleets (compared to a survival server) meaning that surival servers will be destroyed after some time. | |

Yes, but the point of this topic is about anti-grief creative servers and what we don't want Futurecraft to look like. AND creative and survival servers will be separated (or should be at the least).

| I've been thinking about that last remark, Block. I want survival to be almost as easy to obtain resources as in creative, once you've started effectively. Besides the new effective mining equipment, I would also like to see new servers receive shipments of goods to build their first ships with.
If we make resources easy to obtain on survival, then more people will play it. I don't think we'll even need creative servers.
If people want to create great structures using creative, they can build it in a shipyard, then let EVERYONE see the design, without any material cost, and without any chance of it being destroyed.
Wow! Why didn't I think of that sooner?

| Maybe FCE could ship cargos of stuff to servers that are new, and as they progress, we get rid of protection on the cargo ships, making the servers need to protect them, then we stop sending supplies, so they have to invade other planets and mine asteroids to keep ship production up and repair ships. Just an idea. | |
