WTF does 'Johntain' mean?

So, I've been reading the Halo wiki a lot recently, and I keep hitting the word 'Johntain'. It's in a ton of articles, always seems to be referring to Jiralhanae, and means absolutely nothing as far as I can tell. I can't find any references or definitions for it. Am I missing something here? It's used so consistently that I can't imagine it's just nonsense, but damned if I can figure it out. It frequently seems to be talking about Jiralhanae Chieftains, but the word does not appear on the Jiralhanae Chieftain page. It's occasionally used to refer specifically to Tartarus, the main enemy in Halo 2 (usually as "Johntain of the Brutes", not just 'Johntain' as it is elsewhere), but it doesn't appear on his page, either.

And so on and so forth. It appears in something like 50 articles across the Halo wiki. It's used as a synonym for 'Chieftain', but I don't understand why they use a different word. Does anyone know anything about this? Some reference or joke that I'm not getting?

My near-encyclopedic knowledge of Halo doesn't know what to say.

It's a weird thing for a vandal to have done, though. It's in about fifty articles, which is a lot, but it's not like every instance of the word 'chieftain' has been replaced across the whole wiki, or even in the articles in which 'Johntain' appears. It would be a strange person who went to that much trouble without going all the way. All the articles are fine besides this, and it's been like this for a long time--I vaguely remember it from my last Halo wiki kick a couple of months ago. If it was vandalism, surely it would have been fixed at some point, given how prolific it is. It has every appearance of being a normal and accepted part of the wiki.

It has occurred to me that John-117 is the Master Chief, and is often referred to simply as 'Chief', making 'Chief' and 'John' synonymous in most of the dialogue in the series. I'm not sure how you get from that to replacing the syllable 'chief' with the syllable 'john' in random other words, though.
