| So there's this girl I really like and get all feathery inside whenever I see her. It's like a crush, well, exactly like a crush. But she's a superior officer in JROTC and I feel like anything I do will be interpreted as kissing up, assuming she'd even be interested in a relationship to begin with. She is single though, I know that much by virtue of some shameless Facebook stalking, but she is extremely outgoing, it would seem. So I unno.
Asking about advice about girls on futurecraft forums. Because it clearly worked out for tacokingbob and his impressive tromboner.

| Well, I guess i'm the closest to proper help you have. I personally like it when guys are being themselves (big shocker). And by the way it is very easy to tell when a guy is being fake about his personality. Be friendly, talk with her a lot, get to know eachother. Depending how popular she is you may want to speed up or slow down the get to know you process. But it's all the cheesy stuff just be a friend, warm up to her and be the sweet person she can always fall back on.
Edit: Thats just a catch all, obviously it will vary depending on her personality. Care to tell us what you know about her (personality wise)

| Ah yes, courting up the chain of command; a most dangerous game.
Try being the soldier she needs you to be. Cut down insubordination in your squad. Then, move in. Slowly. Very, very slowly.
Also it might not work because conventional militaries forbid relationships up and down the chain of command due to the risk of favoritism.

| I'm, err, well, I'm not a squad leader. We're in the same grade, but this is my first year in the program so I'm a LET-1 (year one cadet, all freshman) where she's a LET-3. I've been reading her facebook page and I have to say I really, really like her (it's not a generic 'hurr hurr she is teh secksy' kind of thing, I really like her character). I don't think I've been smitten with someone to this degree before. I'd even be willing to drop the class if it meant a relationship with her, which is like...well, it's a big deal for me. JROTC is one of the best places I've ever been in, but if that's the barrier here...
I need to catch her alone, though, if only to talk. But I'd hate to just unload all of this on her like some creep..

And that is? Please pardon my ignorance. I'm guessing it's some military training thingy? Since when was Tiel in the military?

It's staffed by military veterans, and their mission statement seems to be trying to convince you they have nothing to do with the army. It's actually a leg of the ROTC program, which is the college-level one wherein you take the class to become an officer in the military upon finishing the course.

| Honestly, just treat her like you would anyone else you get along with. Don't try to make anything more out of it than that; just chat. Find out something you didn't know from the Facebook stalking.
If you are acting comfortable, you aren't freaking her out.

Also, Frost is probably the best advice here. The rest of us encounter the same problems and haven't found solutions, and frost's the oldest guy here.

I just find it difficult carrying on with guys, nevermind girls (though the LET-1s in my platoon think I'm cool for reasons even I don't fathom). I think I actually scared the shit out the platoon leader (CO, not the sergeant) when I just stared at her dead in the eye after she told me I failed the PFC test. Height can be very intimidating. - Keon wrote:

Become 'motivated to become a better citizen', evidently. The military drills we do and the marksmanship training, among other things, are just fluff apparently.

| The only ones I know of also outrank me, and she's a social creature so doubtlessly they'd tell her about my inquiries.
I don't know how to start a conversation, anyway. I'd just be all like, "Hey!" and then just sit there nodding and offering half-hearted responses instead of actively steering it to what I want to talk about.

| Here's something. If you're in some public area at the same time as them, unobtrusively follow them briefly or be near them(sneakily), and eavesdrop. Use this over a few days to get an idea of what she/her friends are interested in. Then, somehow engineer a meeting that will end in a conversation. Should you have learned they/she is interested in something you know about or are interested in, mention how you were somehow reminded of it and mention it. If you've got absolutely nothing in common, use your joint membership in this JROTC thing and complain about something everyone else complains about. Remember not to be a stalker though, and if they aren't interested, just let the conversation die. | |

Or am I the new one to the club? I'll take any advice on conversing I can get. Conversion into self-help thread GO! @ACH, JROTC is run by cadets, at least in theory. Anything I could whine about having to do is because she'd have told me to do it.

| I think people should start listing credentials, which is pretty scarce on this subject. And no, coding / modelling / texturing credentials don't count.
But this makes me a hypocrite because I tell Tiel crap all the time and I don't have any idea what I am saying.

| Can you please not post in this thread? I realize it's a bit tactless to ask such a thing, but your thoughts on the matter are only applicable to a distinct minority...of course assuming you're serious. | |

The last thing I said is just generally true, doesn't come from RCC doctrine or whatever. I know it feel like you love her etc. etc. but I'll(almost) guarantee you'll be over her in a few months or a year or two. I've been there Jeffe. Edit: DON'T LISTEN TO A WORD THAT LUNA SAYS, WOMEN ARE THE WORST AT DATING ADVICE.
