The Dormidean Armada

History

Millions of light years from other forms of civilized life, on a planet the size of Jupiter, two controlling governments have been fighting against each other for control of the planet Rhomide's resources. After revolution by both the military and citizen factions, peace has finally been accomplished after hundreds of years of war. After these two nations solved their issues, they grouped together as the Dormidean Armada, and focused on expansion to Rhomide's thirteen different moons.

As their technology grew to be too outdated for advanced transportation, breakthroughs in the propulsion of highly energized atoms were made by the Dormidean Scientific Research Center, or the D.S.R.C. These highly energized atoms were used for engine propulsion and weaponry, with very little resources used to fuel both the weaponry and the engine systems. The energized atoms were able to fire in short bursts or in controlled laser beams, with the atoms exploding with high force on impact with the target. Finally, after strife, conflict, and peace, the people of Rhomide were able to expand outwards into space.

Using their new-found technology, the Dormidean Armada created a network of orbital defenses, consisting of both turrets and shielding, used to repel incoming meteors which would have otherwise plagued the planet with constant bombardment. The centuries of wars had not had an impact on available ships, and much of the ships capable of deep-space travel had been destroyed or heavily damaged in war. All that was gathered of the fleet consisted of inter-atmospheric ships and transport vehicles, and ground-assault vehicles. Once the planet's defense was taken care of, the Dorimdean Council (which controlled the fleet's movement and action) turned its' resources and capabilities towards the development of advanced ships capable of intergalactic travel and assault.

Welcome to the forum, I will not be your guide.
Your designs look fine, but you could improve them by making them exactly like mine because those are the few kinds I like, but I don't recommend doing that, you should try and perfect your style with practice and take some tips from the designs by others, but don't be a copycat, no one likes those.
You may or may not disregard my tips, but I will provide them and you may choose to even read them or not. I do not care. But I do care enough to tell you.

nice job, especially like the orbital defense cannon
one thing i do think you should look into is color
you need a secondary block to give your ships and vehicles a better look
for instance my most common block is iron, i use nether brick as my secondary
secondaries are usually something that stand out (i don't think that is grammatically correct)
but thats just my advice, i don't think anyone wants to see a ship made with 50 shades of grey

I don't think a ship made of paper books would even fly.

Thank you enough to care about not caring enough to provide some slight tips, I guess. I'll look into your style of building and see if I can integrate some minor styles, if possible.

As for the 50 shades of grey and the secondary colors, I was trying to go for more of a stealth type of theme, but I didn't really convey that well (or at all) in the original post, so I'll try to fix either that, the ships, or both. Thanks for the suggestion/tip though, it was good to get another opinion on that matter.

I really like your OP setup. It's very clear and easy to understand. The orbital defenses and the heavy dropship are my favorites. I love what you did with the slabs/diagonal lines! Very cool, good texture pack too.

I don't really have a style. I more just try to copy something from like Halo or whatever, fail, then try to make it look on purpose.

The main texture for his ships is what's causing the problems. The normal Deuteros Iron Block texture causes similar issues.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to contract for some ground ops? We Taln don't really like to get our hands dirty...

I'll be working on that when I revamp the main color scheme to something less gray-oriented.

The Dormidean Council would be honored to contract some ground ops out to the Taln Shipyards, though it might be a bit of a trek to get them to you...

Fleet support will be provided, of course. I'm sure with the proper preparations a flotilla of your Heavy Dropships could safely accompany a Taln battlegroup to the contested planet.

I updated the main post with the added coloration for the ships.
I like it, but other opinions would be great.

Also, just a sneak peak on the next monster I'm working on:

Nice ship! I personally don't like the color scheme, but compared to other ships it has awesome class and style.

The design of your ships is legendary. The only advice I need to give you is your choice of blocks. I know the texture pack you're using, and I'd use cobblestone instead of iron for the main hull block (At least, the grey-brown block that has matching slabs and steps that I think is cobblestone).

OH! It's a UNSC Frigate inspired design xD

Took me a while to figure that out, nice job!

The blocks with corresponding stairs or slabs:

From left to right: Spruce wood, Birch wood, Cobblestone, Oak wood, Bricks, Jungle wood, Sandstone, Stone bricks, Netherbrick, Stone slab

The main issue I've had is getting a good color scheme with working slabs and stairs, since I use those a lot while working.
On the Birch wood and Brick blocks, the texture cuts off halfway through the slab, and on the Sandstone and Stone slabs, the top slab differs from the bottom slab.
The Spruce wood seems under-textured and the Cobblestone seems overly textured.
The Stone slab is missing stairs and the Netherbrick is also missing a slab...
The Oak wood is overly textured but resembles a grid pattern usually seen on the typical catwalk.

So basically I've gone with the Oak wood as a reinforcing-type of metal (since I feel it sort of reciprocates that idea [in theory]) and then I've basically had the Jungle wood and the Stone brick to work with, since those are the only two textures I don't have some major issue with :/

The main block I use is Obsidian since it doesn't really conform to that idea of a white spaceship and since it seems somewhat evil, but it doesn't really go well with many block textures...

As for the stair and slab texture, I decided to go with the Stone brick since it offsets the blackness of the Obsidian I use as a major texture, but it still seems off somewhat...

I might try switching the Obsidian out for another color, but then to change the stairs I would need to replace each one individually since using replace on world edit and mcedit doesn't put them in the correct direction or orientation.

In short, I need a good texture pack which is updated and with which I can work, so that when I do change the color scheme, I wouldn't need to replace every stair more than once...

(a lot of complaining in this post)

Or you could do some minor copy/pasting in Paint.net, move around the textures you don't like, and be done in five minutes without moving a single block in-game.

I would ruin more things than fix them if I did that...
Me and paint do not go well with each other

EDIT: Actually, I'm going to try that out.

Alright, the paint thing didn't work out too well, since it actually copied the background of white onto the textures which were supposed to be clear.

Using my reduced skill in Photoshop, however, I managed to get the textures changed.
Tell me what you think of this idea for a color scheme:
Spoiler:

Using the previously posted picture with separate blocks and stairs, I might switch the light brown (spruce wood) and the white block (birch wood), and I might switch the white block (birch wood) with the fragmented white block (jungle wood) to split up the white texture some.

I'll post the updated textures on the drop ship for both situations later on, but until then, tell me what you think of these textures so far.
