 Origin of the NPC

There will be some kind of NPC which can do stuff and possibly get specialisation, but how do we get them?

a)recruit villagers:
+ mobs already in place
+ actual reason to protect the villagers
+ they get a better use than making useless trades
- not enough villagers, possibly rewrite spwan mechanics?

b)hire them for ingame money out of thin air
+ infinite number, good for big factions which need many employees
- screwed logic, where do they actually come from?
- WTH is a villager supposed to be if not a possible employee?

c)AI
+ possibility of handwritten code, allowing custom programs, e.t.c.
- technological stuff is technological and requires technology, ergo not available in beginning of the game -> who runs your labs?

I know! The villagers could be in large rooms where they open and close doors all day. But seriously I don't think that's a bad idea.

But "employee" is not quite the word, employees get paid. They would be more like a slave to you, since you generate money off of them. Also it would have to be balanced and have a limit to how many you can have.

This seem much more complex then it has to be.
Easy, the city's will have civilians and they can be recruited if you are looking for organic solider, or you can just make combat drones that look like what ever species you are, that you can mass produce.

and the whole coding them is really over complex, all they need a a few basic commands like go here, patrol here, guard here, stay in formation, and a other things, so it's more friendly to people who cant code their robots, cause from experience, when only one guy can code , it's really inefficient, and nothing gets done.


I don't see a problem with mercs though, but why the, these are your options, pick one, just have them all.

Mine and Blade: Commander has some good command coding for NPCs.

I think buildings. Apartments and housing=more NCPs. Schools=Better NCPs. Academies and Universities=Specialized NCPs

So I just found out that all my horribly inbred villagers died from a disease know to most of you as a cold. Dammit, they were supposed to be part of the now declassified Project ERRINGR. Oh well, the facility's still there, I guess I'll just try again...

Actually, I decided to let you discuss that out as it was on a way to oblivion.
Well, Í do as well like the idea of building homes for the NPCs where they then spawn and can be recruited.
