PostSubject: A quetion to the community   A quetion to the community Icon_minitimeThu Nov 08, 2012 4:37 pm

I tried to write some chapters of my little story recently but I felt like everything I made was literally ignored. I put this vote to see ho many people actually read it. If there are people reading I'll keep posting, no questions asked just don't expect me to become any better without feedback. If I write to the walls indeed I just won't bother you with it anymore.

Notice there is no troll vote as usual because I want you to take this vote seriously as I will take it seriously, and hopefully you won't ignore it too.

Why is there no "No, because I didn't have time to" option?

Also Iv, we all know that your one of the best writers on this forum. (along with Fenway)

You're a good writer, but the errors, understandable as they are, sorta served as a deterrent for me personally to be brutally honest.

And I'd love to eviscerate the person who voted no, they're probably illiterate.

To be honest, it seems that talent, real talent, is brusquely ignored because people can't be bothered to read it. Whereas, really, really stupid things (Like cool's Crying Hot Ship) tend to get comments because people's minds can comprehend it and hurl poo at it effectively. It's much harder to read, comprehend, and then criticize/rate/give feedback on works that require extensive work to understand. Thats the long answer.

The short answer? Bad stuff is more readable than good stuff, and has more stuff to laugh at.

I enjoy it but a big part of the fun is to see the reaction of the community (and if you noticed my thread there is simply full of TRIPLE posts)

As the votes are favorable I will continue to write but really if you do not give feedback I can't improve (So where did you say my mistakes are Tiel ? ) . I encourage you to help me out by pointing at mistakes and stuff, and those who don't read it ... cmon it's just 3 pages in average (pasted in word). A book has around 7-10 pages in average
.

Yea also who edited my poll without my permission ? The last answer doesn’t make sense : "I don't have time but it's not bad " . How can you tell it's not bad if you don't have time to read it Shocked ?

Srsly though it's either yes keep writing or don't bother writing, as bold as this saying is because that's what no means.

I didn't edit the poll, but whoever did was probably looking for an option that wasn't as insulting as the one you had. If you want to take it to mean the same thing, by all means do so, but not having time to read something is not at all the same as thinking it's crap, which your poll implied.

Funny how you consider this an insult while I don't really care , guess difference in nationalities Smile . Here we are more talkative and put less limit on our words. By western standards it might be considered impolite to talk so openly in public but on the other hand It's harder to find happier crowd than our locals, especially at 12PM when they shout all over the neighbourhood Razz . You can really see I'm against limiting the freedom of speech unless it hurts others. If you really wish to, replace "crap" with "thing" in the vote.

I don't care particularly, but yeah, calling someone else's work 'crap' is not a way to win friends where I live.

No, I think in both countries there's a difference between "You suck at writing" and "Your writing is good but not the next Harry Potter.

Harry Potter is not a masterpiece lets admit it (the last three books felt more like money machines as they lost their depth) . Also how can you say it of you didn't read it. Either you read it and you keep reading couse you think it's good, either you read it once and quit couse it sucks, either you don't read it even once from different reasons.

Have to agree with Iv. There are ways to draw things out beyond reason...but Harry Potter does a piss-poor job of it.

Well then it's not really relevant. I don't think anyone can argue that the LOTR trilogy isn't a good example of fine writing.

LotR is a wonderful story, but Tolkien is a bit... overly verbose... at times. That's what happens when linguists write novels. They are inarguably (WTF, spellcheck) some of the best novels ever written, though. That's not an opinion; given the amount of praise and following they've accrued, it is a statement of fact. Even if you personally don't like them, you have to admit that they are very good books. They just don't appeal to your individual tastes.
