| We Austrians have our national holiday, the Nationalfeiertag, as it is called in german today. I suggest we discuss national holidays and what event is celebrated at them. We Austrians celebrate the signing of the Österreichischer Staatsvertrag, or Austrian State Treaty, as it´s called in english. It made Austria independent as well as neutral after WW2, allowing us to be a free government which never really had its finances ruined by the cold war! For further information: click the link. | |

| You wanna know all Jewish holidays ? I mean it's even more than yours and I'm not talking about standard national holidays like the one you mentioned ...
So In the beginning of September we had our new year stuff, 10 days after that we had Yom-Kippur which is not exactly a holiday but it's the holiest day for Jews. (it's the day when God based on your actions decide if you love another year * gasp* ). After that we had 8 days long holidays up to the end of September (The time when the Jews got the 10 testaments at Sinai mountain, it's also the time when a new reading cycle is starting in the synagogues). Ahead of us we have Hanukah in December which is the defeat of the Greeks in Israel after the Maccabian rebellion, also 8 days.
Ok so now we don't have anything big until the end of February, this is Purim, which is the defeat of the Babylonian conspirators against the Jews (who were exiled for the first time after being defeated by the Babylonian empire, similar to Halloween in terms of costumes and stuff, just less spooky, 3 days. Next big holiday is Passover (Pessah) , it's the escape of the Jews from Egypt after being slaves (the stuff with Mousses) and it's the second most important Jewish holiday. Beginning of April - 8 days long.
After that there would be some national stuff. First will be the Holocaust memorial day (Which occurs in the day of the rebellion in the Warsaw Ghetto and not in the day of liberation of Auschwitz Death camp like in the rest of the world (not like it cares about this one anyway). A week after that we have the memorial day for the fallen in the Israeli wars, a day after is our Independence day (some of you actually talked about it this year). It's declaration day of our country and the beginning of the independence war (1948-1949)
The next holiday is again the Jewish new year. You should note that the dates for those things are not constant in the Georgian calendar as the holidays here are decided using the Jewish Lunar calendar.

| Norway's national day is at the 17th of may. We celebrate the day we got our constitution law signed.
The day is celebrated by marching in parades, watching the king wave from the castle, and eating lots of ice cream.

| I suppose I can divulge a holiday or two....
June 15th is the day when all the species-nations finished their unification, and formed the current nation.
January 27th is the day for memorial for all those who have died in wars.

Actually, the king hasn't got a lot of power. He is more of a symbol, his only job is to hold a speech at new year s eve and wave at the 17th of may. The government has all the power.

It´s about national holidays, not religious ones.

| I don't see the difference in our case. As you share the same Christian holidays in almost every European country (and the US ofc) those holidays become pretty much standard for a big group of people with only one thing connecting them together - their religion. In our case there is only one country that has those holidays that have more things to do with our nationality than religion (As you could see it's mostly about different wars that happened to us) so those actually ARE national holidays. In addition there are more "National" national holidays I added in April. | |

National holidays are the celebration held to celebrate something that had a major impact on the history of the nation. Here a link: dat oneIn your case, the national holiday would be what you called your "independence day", according to linked wikipedia site.
