this must be decided here and now : Will futurecraft include aliens ? I know the staff is against it but I don't know the reason for it. In fact I don't know any significant reason why not to include aliens.


Current results:

from the vote results the relic aliens are supported by approximately 75% of the voters, which means there is no arguing about it.
50% of the people support standard aliens idea and 58% support the hostile aliens idea.
Also 42% support SPACE COOKEH !
Only 25% of the voters do not want to see any aliens at all.

I calculated this assuming each voter voted for at least 2 choices and the no-aliens voters voted for only 1 choice.
It is clear most people want to see aliens in futurecraft.





There can be 3 categories :

- Standard aliens : They are different from terrans only in lore. In gameplay their mechanics are similar to terran (With slight differences such as better shield technologies etc. ). Those can be playable by users.

- Ancient aliens : that for some reason didn't quite make it to our days. We can find their powerful artefacts and technologies though flying around in alien space hulks.

- Hostile aliens : A common enemy to all factions. They randomly attack systems. IF the system is neutral there may be given a quest to protect it in exchange for money or stuff. If it belongs to a faction , well the faction is screwed depending on the size of the invading force (Which can also vary). If the aliens destroy all ships present in the system it becomes under siege with the aliens assaulting the planets. If it is a neutral system the planets will be inaccessible for landing (planetary shields) and will not take active part in the fight. Once all alien ships in the system are defeated the siege is broken and the saviors who participated in the liberation may receive a prize.


If you are against aliens specify why .



For now I conclude all pros:

- 20% cooler than standard humans !
- A way to wary both the look and gameplay.
- Effective way to manage big factions without using an unfair "Admin Fleet"
- More stuff for people to do.
- The universe feels much more complete with them
- More place to add lore
- Aliens is that sort of common thing that almost everyone will ask about.

Cons so far:
- The idea will cause people to ask for more aliens, more alien animals and stuff unrelated to it.

Counter-cons:

- Haters gonna hate and you can't appeal them all. Either they accept it as it is or quit. Also the majority of the people won't ask for this and accept the existing aliens. Even if they will they will not quit couse of it.




If you have other cons tell me, otherwise I see no true reason as why to exclude aliens.

Ancient aliens definitely... maybe on planets you can find crypts and such. like those of skyrim, except they don't come back and scare the **** out of you... or maybe they would.... I dont know...

I think npc aliens are considered, and more so alien ruins, but they were against cool3303's stupid alien idea.

I had been considering for a long time to go the relics of a lost civilization route to encourage exploration. You could have ruins in space large enough to fly a cruiser around in, and fight the guardians which are somehow still active after untold eons.

THe problem is that there's no way to do them right. There simply isn't. There will always, always, always, even after years of development, be more things left undone, and for every thing left undone or unimplemented or unexplored, a dozen people will find a way to scream about it. Alien crypts might be OK. I think having live aliens or even automated sentries there is pushing it. There can't be an alien fleet, or aliens on planets, or even alien microbes. Say Fr0st implements aliens wandering around on planets. People will say, "Y THEIR NO DIFERENT ALIENZ ON MAH PLANET? IT A DIFRENT PLANET! THIS MOD SUCK!!!!!!111!!!" and then you'll have to have different aliens on each planet. And then they'll say, "THEIR ALIENS! Y THEIR NO ALIEN ANIMALS?!!!" And you'll have to add animals. And then ecosystems. And then all of Spore. And on forever.

I was thinking about maybe one crypt per world...maybe to explain the strongholds and mine shafts?

Well I already said that a mod of space combat should not have planets the way you plan to add them . A hub with all service necessary to the ships should be enough (maybe a look out of the window on a fake futuristic city ). Just imagine how much pressure it is on a server to hold ONE minecraft world, now you have to either make a server per planet or a super powerful server per system, this is way beyond our abilities.

If you have just one city you can implement a lot of stuff like those aliens in no time . Also haters gonna hate so we do it not couse they asked ...

How about in the server.properties there is an option

like Worldtype:System

and that would make the server run a 9 planet system.

Yea keep dreaming Razz . Not the software is the limit in our case but the hardware which we can't change. It is possible to make the game smoother but I doubt you will get x9 performance increase.

I think there should be some kind of NPC ships so new players can get the hang of ship combat, and also so if somebody wants to kill something it's not at the expense of other peoples ships, or causing a war between factions because of some gung-ho idiot killing stuff that they weren't supposed to kill.

Sure. But not aliens. Make it militia like SoaSE or something, anything but aliens. Aliens are a black hole that will suck the mod in.

Yeah, I think aliens should be just long lost relics, and have NPC's be pirates or militia.

Fans of firefly. What if the Aliens were something like the revers? Barbaric "humans" (if you can call them human) that attack and murder the crew of any ship close enough. That would fix the problem of everyone wanting new aliens.

This may be getting to imaginative, but if they do kill the crew of a ship, maybe they can take it over. That would give the Aliens a chance to become a real danger. If they get enough ships and power, they could do some serious damage.

I don't accept your explanation about aliens being a black hole. All ideas can effect in this way the mod, therefore I see no difference between an Alien NPCs and human NPCs, besides being 20% cooler . If you have any other reason as why not to include aliens go ahead and say.

We will have ancient aliens if circumstances are favorable. I would really love to have ancient ruins with valuable tech, that would also allow for a horror aspect to the game and for more lore.


We don't need NPC aliens, I find the idea silly unless we add them as this underlying super-power. Think about for a long time, I don't feel like trying to explain it.
