While we are on the subject of xkcd, the one after that one ranks (this one) #1 on things I really need to try.

You mean the fact that Anonymous does not forgive or forget?

Sorry. Refer to rule 404.

I believe that it is rule #140 that is relevant.

I'm not an FBI Agent, so I don't see how this is relevant.

Why do I have the feeling that the rules of the internet are some kind of prank/meme instead of to-be-considered-important?
btw, what is /b/ ?

Back on topic...

I prefer Wimdows. I normally use an ASUS laptop with:

-4GB RAM
-Intel i5 2540M
-nVidia GeFroce 560M 2GB
-520GB 7200RPM SATA drive
-14.6" 1080p screen

that I got for $800.

I find that Linux has too many compatibility issues, and Macs are exponentially overpriced. Also, the only advantage that I can see in OSX is that it's completely idiot-proofed. I have yet to have any problems with Win7 or any viruses.

Block, why did you get 16GB of RAM? Anything over 6 is pretty well useless in my experience. To be honest, I've never been over 3.

I prefer Linux. In particular:

Zorin OS (based on Ubuntu) for desktop use
DSL (Damn Small Linux, independent) and Slax (based on Slackware) for portable use from CD or USB
RIP (Recovery is Possible, independent) for data recovery and partitioning
openSUSE (based on Fedora / Red Hat) for tricking people into thinking I have Windows

Windows 8 coming out in 6 or so days. I dunno about the new interface...I'd rather not have my laptop become an oversized iPad.

Windows 7 is adequate, and updating my translator would be a hassle.

Exactly. I'm staying Windows 7 until I need to swap over to Unix. What happened to computing?

I am going to get Windows 8, because a few months ago my computer decided my copy of Windows 7 wasn't legitimate, and nothing I can do has fixed it. Hopefully getting Windows 8 will make it go away.

I'm not saying it's horrible, persay, but the direction Microsoft is taking with 8 is essentially aimed at tablets. What they did with it is take RT, slap support for legacy apps and the old 7 toolbar and call it a day. We have the whole appstore thing going on, too, where MS decides what you install, not the end user. And the selection isn't particularly generous from what I've heard.

I can get 8 for 15 bucks, but I really don't think I'll install it. I think it's pretty cool, but fairly confident the novelty'll wear off pretty fast after release for most PC users.
